Maternity pillow - worth it, or a waste of cash?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and a few people have mentioned maternity pillows. Anyone bought one? Are they worth getting, or do normal pillows do the job just as well? Also, has anyone used one after for feeding. Finally - if they are worth it - what make/brand?

I used an ordinary pillow quite happily. Similarly for feeding afterwards. Save your money!!

I found mine a lifesaver, one behind my back and one to feed. It means you can put baby in different positions easier (DS fed in random tucked under the arm type positions etc.) and the extra length also covers any hard armrests that baby might bonk their heads on.

waste of cash

get a cheapy V pillow from ARgos (one arm under bump, one between knees) - also handy for feeding sitting up in bed afterwrds. Roll the single duvet off the spare bed into a long sausage to replicate the long whole-body type.

The long pillow (from mothercare- its basically like 2 pillows stitched together end on end) was lovely for sleeping while pregnant as you could sort of hug it havent used it since though. Guess you could make your own for a lot cheaper really if you had the time...

I really loved the u shaped one (also mothercare), my dad bought it for me while I was in hospital after the birth, in fact I sent him to buy one as I needed a comfy way to hold my ds. Used it loads in early months for breastfeeding, and still do (ds now 15 months)!

agree with glitter - the long one is great from Mothercare. Very comfy.

After the baby is born, we use it as a barrier between the wall and the bed.

Definitely worth it, I slept a lot better with the L-shaped one, also it is brilliant for putting behind DS now he's sitting up. If I'd have had positioning problems with BFing I'd have used it as a BF pillow too.

i bought a long thin pillow from kiddicare.im now nearly 32 weeks and have found it the best money ive spent so far.keeps me nicely supported on my side, takes weight off my body in all the right places and because its just one long thing its really manouvorable.take it up to bed at night and bring it down in evenings sto use on chairs/sofas.stayed away from homw a few weeks ago and hated it as i forgot my pillow!

I still sleep with my Mothercare one two years later. It is lovely to hug and doesn't demand sex when snuggled up to.

It is fantastic for my dodgy pelvis and back and supports everything.

I bought a long pillow for between my legs during pregnancy, a wedge for under my bump and a v shaped pillow to prop me up better, all of these i found invaluable and non overly expensive as all form argos! I still use the v shaped pillow for feeding DS and for sitting him up! The other 2 have been washed and sent to my heavily pregnant sister who also finds them very useful! I would definately recomend pillows my dp used to complain though that our bed was just a mass of pillows but he would lovingly position them in the right places when he made the bed! Awww

v-shaped pillows are godsend when you are feeding the baby after a c-section especially, keeps the weight of your tum! Just bought one for SIL. £5.99 Argos

I have a 'Big V' one which is filled with micropearl - I bought it from a MNetter but can't remember who - it's fab

I bought it when I was PG with DC3 but I really should have bought one first time round. It is so much more comfortable than a pillow between your knees when you are pregnant, great for BF - I use it to keep a good posture when he is feeding for hours on end and his latch is far better when I use it. I even used it during labour.

If I leave it unattended then it is promptly nicked by DH or the DDs .

Get a good one and it is well worth it IMO.

I had a v shaped one, I used to to sleep with when preggers, then for breastfeeding and now it's used as a barrier to stop ds rolling into the fireplace off his playmant so definately worth it

Brings baby up to breast height without bending over too much. Found it very useful when tryong to master b/f and I just didn't seem to have enough hands!

DS and DD both used it to prop themselves up when they were learning to sit too.

I bought a V pillow when pg. I slept hugging one part and with the other "leg" between my knees. Once dd was beginning to be able to sit up, we used to put it behind her for support and to give her a soft landing when she toppled. Now it sits on our sofa and provides general back support to whoever sits with it - usually dh.

Great big long one was fantastic when pregnant (I think a "Big V" would have been too).

Got mine from Argos and then saw one even cheaper at some Aldi, Lidel type place.

I used mine all though pregnancy and now use it as a bolster as we dont have a head board.

I had a wedge when PG with DS and it was fab! Also very handy post c section when needed to hold my still flabby belly (yuk I know!) in place in bed without pulling on my stitches.

Post birth I had v shaped pillow for my back and one that I used to put around my waist to help b'feed DS - protected my scar as well as he kicked a lot. Didn't get maternity v shaped one though - just cheapies from argos but they did the job a treat!

I would also nip to IKEA if you can and get a cheapo foot stool - we have one now and I wish I'd had it during the last stages of pregnancy for my poor swollen ankles...well, they were practically cankles when pg!!!

Yup - the best thing since grated cheese!
