Incontinence in pregnancy - whats normal?

In my first pregnancy I had no problems holding my wee until the last week or two when the head was right down and it was a challenge if I sneezed etc. However, baby was huge, labour long, forceps were used and I tore badly. Since then sneezing, running and laughing have all been inadvisable with a full bladder.

Now I am five months into my second pregnancy. I cannot walk fast, let alone run, without getting slightly damp even when my bladder is only slightly full. If I run its worse than damp. If I cough/sneeze/laugh without crossing my legs I leak a little and if I have a bad coughing fit I pretty much wet myself.

Is this normal for a second pregnancy? Shall I go and see the doctor?

Hi

It does happen to a lot of people. You could try concentrating on your pelvic floor exercises just now and speak to the midwife or doctor at your next appointment. There are lots of things you can do but don't know if its best to wait until after baby is born? I am sure someone else can help thats been in the same situation.

It is not normal to that extent. You should see your gp and ask for a referal to a physio.

You need a referral. You should also ask about the impact of a 2nd labour.
