midwife appointments after 28 weeks?..

hi, i can't seem to remember with ds how often i saw the midwife, but i have my next appointment with my GP at 22 weeks then 28 week midwife at the hospital.

does anyone know what the regularilty of midwife appointments are after 28 weeks? i'm booked in at elizabeth garret anderson, uch, london.

Hi, I can only go by my Health Authority but it was 31, 34, 36, 38 and now 40 & 41 weeks. xx

I haven't seen the mw for six weeks (last one at 28 weeks) - seeing her today (34 weeks). It is my third. It feels a long time to go in between appts but that is per the guidelines. Haven't paid much attention beyond that yet!

I'm really confused by UCLH/EGA - I saw the midwife at about 8 weeks and then nothing until 28 weeks - is this normal? My list says 'community based' visit in between or somesuch but I have no idea who that is.. the doctor I saw recently asked me why I didn't call the midwife for advice instead of her.. should I be more worried than I already am - I've only actually seen a health professional twice in 22 weeks and this is my first pregnancy..

jette, don't you have a booklet that outlines when your appointments should be? the booklet that contains my notes has a clear outline of when appointments will take place and in any case, I'm a bit that they haven't had you back to do tests - bloods etc, to hear the heartbeat etc. You should call the midwife and ask her exactly what will happen for the rest of yr pregnancy. Make a list of any questions that you have before you get her on the phone so you can bombard her! preg brain can kick in and you forget the vital things you'd been wanting to know for weeks...

I went from 28 weeks to 34 to 37 (my next one) and then I think they are weekly from here on in

According to my notes, it's 28 weeks (hospital midwives), then 32+34 weeks with the community midwives who I've never seen, 36 at the hospital, then 38+40 community, 41 and any others hospital.

Back in reality: booked in only at 21 weeks, when they decided not to bother with a 24-week, although I saw a midwife at 25 weeks for a physio referral anyway.
So I had my 28, when they booked my 36 except I recently realised the date was wrong and was 34 weeks. meanwhile the community midwives had replied to my answerphone message asking for 32+34, giving me one appt at 33 weeks.

So called them all this morning. Given that all my results from 28 weeks are fine, I'm now seeing the hospital at 36 weeks and the community midwives only at 33 weeks, on the grounds that getting to them is £20 in cab fares and there's not much point - unless something changes.

First baby, St George's in south London, apparently a 'very average' pregnancy!

oh yes - the non-hospital midwives are referred to as 'GP', meaning GP-surgery-based-midwives, but my GP practice has contracted out all antenatal care to a bunch of midwives who work out of a different surgery, further away.

If your doctor is saying talk to a midwife instead of them, surely they should have the details of the midwives you should be calling?

Hi there - I had blood tests and scans (but no contact with a midwife/doctor) but I was told that unless it was bad news I wouldn't be contacted - and I wasn't! I was sent the result of my nuchal scan and it was fine.. I have the list of appointments but basically the doctor doesn't seem particularly interested and the midwife asterisked which appointments would be with her - 28 weeks is the second.. I might go down to UCH later but as I don't really know what's supposed to be happening I seem to be greeted by blank looks a lot of the time..

thanks for your replies ladies! sounds like the NHS to me!!

i had my 16 week midwife at UCH and it really felt like I was on a factor conveyor belt!!! my next one there is 28 weeks and i'm going to make the most of it!!

jette- have you registered your pregnancy with your GP? do they have a midwife service there? if it's in the area for UCH then you'll get one of their community midwives, i did with ds but we were living in EC1 then (clerkenwell)

at EGA they have a good day assessment unit if you are every worried, it's on the 4th or 2nd floor... i can't remember but you can just turn up during the day with your notes and be seen! they have drinks and sandwiches there too! prob coz they keep you forever there if you do go!

i am seeing the antenatel GP at my surgery at 22 weeks, we're now in hackney and the homerton community midwifes won't see me there as i'm with UCH (we moved recently hence still with UCH) but they will visit me after the birth hence i am seeing my ante natel GP to make sure i get my post natel support! i just feel quite out of it... but trying to chill and go with it...

good to read that i'm not the only one feeling lost!
