Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

Seeing as lulumama is lurking...! MW told me on Friday that if my placenta doesn't move, they will admit me to hospital at 37 weeks to do a CS at 39 weeks - [hmm]

Can I refuse?

Its ridiculous to think I might have to spend 2 weeks in bloody hospital. I've got two children at home FGS, one of which will JUST have started school. I will NOT leave them for 2 bloody weeks

She said becuase we're so rural they won't want to risk me going into labour as it will take an hour to get to the hospital.

Where is your local hospital MG?

Half of me says thats crap and I'd be as pissed off as you

but the other half thinks that it could be quite a sensible option, from a labour and birth point of view, not child care etc.

MarsLady · 13/07/2008 12:07

Mama... where's your placenta? (I realise I've probably missed a thread or 12)

MamaG · 13/07/2008 12:07

Its in Lancaster, a good 50 minute drive away - there is a MW led unit 30 mins away but no good if I do have a low lying placenta.

I know that its silly to fret when it may well move, but I am feeling anxious about it. I was horrified when she told me TBH.

Is Lulumama a doula or a midwife? I am sure she lives near me...

MamaG · 13/07/2008 12:10

she's a doula

I had this MamaG with DD1, luckily it moved by the scan at 32 weeks. I think they said the majority of placentas do move upwards as the womb stretches. Hope yours does!

MarsLady · 13/07/2008 12:11

mama... there is time to worry about this n'est pas?

lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:11

am a doula, pgwithnumber3..! don;t know if i live near you, unless you are who i am thinking of!

depends how low placenta is. whether it is near, touching or covering your internal cervical os.

if it is just touching, there is every chance that you might well find it moves as your uterus grows with the pregnancy.

you can of course decline admission

MamaG · 13/07/2008 12:12

I know I'm being silly to fret so soon but I am

Does touching the OS mean anything ot you or have I heard it wrongly?!

butwhybutwhy · 13/07/2008 12:13

I'm sure you are horrified

I hope it moves and you can whatever the hell you want

pgwithnumber3 · 13/07/2008 12:13

Who are you thinking of lulumama? I haven't really been posting very long, a couple of months.

I live in Birkdale, I think I can remember reading on a thread (in my lurking days) that you were living in Southport.

lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:13

it means something to me!

the internal cervical os...it is a real word 'os'!

lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:14

you are not who i am thinking of then!

what was your name before?

you can CAT me or email me if you want

when are you due?

lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:15

you are ringing a bell though!

TheProvincialLady · 13/07/2008 12:18

pgwithnumber3 · 13/07/2008 12:18

Was fannybanjo but not for long.

I am due on 3 February. Would love a homebirth but doubt DH will agree to it. I tend to lose the plot when about to push out the little nippers.

I will join up so I can CAT you!

Sorry for hijack MamaG!

lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:21

pgwithnumber3 · 13/07/2008 12:27

I would like to name change back but I seem to be posting more and more recently and then people won't know who the hell I am!

Thanks for your email addresses, I will be in touch!

MamaG · 13/07/2008 12:30

LOL I'd missed that TPL!

OP posts:
lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:33

great

MamaG · 13/07/2008 12:40

Maybe I should nip down to Lancaster for it, baby might be getting hungry !

I do feel fed up at the thought of it though. Would I be an utter knob to refuse though? Given that I was 40+10 and 40+11 with other two I very much doubt I'll suddenly go into labour at 38 weeks!

OP posts:
lulumama · 13/07/2008 12:44

i would not worry about it yet.

if it is just touching, then there is every chance it will move. if not, even if you wnet into labour, there is a risk of some blood loss, but not catastrophic. there are grades of low lying placenta, and 1 & 2, where placenta is near or just touching the os, can allow VB. grades 3 and 4 where the placneta is well over or totally covering the os, you do have to have a c.s due to massive blood loss if you went into labour. AFAIK!

so wait for your scan and take it from there.

do your own research so you are fully informed

EffiePerine · 13/07/2008 12:45

I think it's less the chance of going into labour and more the chance of an major bleed?. Friend had this and was hospitalised for several weeks and I think they had a last poss date for her to go to before a planned CS. I think it's called placenta praevia or something similar.

Hopefully the thing will move and all will be fine .

EffiePerine · 13/07/2008 12:46

x-posted with Lulu, friend's was one of the worst kinds (didn't want to worry you)
