Choroid Plexus cyst found in 20 wk scan

Hello all this is my 1st post.

We had our 20 wks scan yesterday and were told baby had Choroid Plexus cyst both sides of brain (fluid around brain not in brain!) they said 'dont worry' and that was that. I've googled and called the hospital back for more info but anyone gone though this, any advice?

I wont take the amnio offered at risk of losing healthy kid.

there is a 1% chance for my age this 'might' be edwards syndrome. so only very slim chance thou. There are no other indicators - ie hands not opening etc so this reduces odds.

just been told to 'not worry' - fat chance!

Oh gosh, poor you. Sorry I can't offer any advice as have no experience of this but just wanted to offer my sympathies. Hopefully someone with some proper advice will be along soon.

Did the hospital offer any further information when you called back?

I think you can have further scans to check whether it decreases in size - it usually does (but I could be wrong about that- a vaguely remembered something I read many years ago).

I DO remember that in most cases they mean nothing and cause lots of unecessary worry.

Agree, in 99.9% of cases means nothing. Our Trust stopped reporting them a few years ago unless seen with other 'soft' markers and they are seen by many sonographers as part of normal foetal development

My best friend had exactly the same problem at her 20 weeks scan last year. She was told to go in the following day for and amnio even if there were no others worring signs a part from her age (she is 38). Like you she didn't want to run the risk of losing a perfectly healthy child and went for a private scan with one of the world's top experts in prenatal surgery in London. It turned out that these things are actually quite common and that, as there were no other signs, there was nothing to worry about. She gave birth to beautiful and perfect baby boy! I do tend to worry as well, so maybe it is worth, just for peace of mind and if you can, getting a second opinion.

Thanks all, I am feeling better the more I read. I did feel I left the hospital ill informed. I am seeing Obstatrician (spelt??) Monday so will chat then for 2nd opinion.
I do however think will try and get the 3d scan done now as bit cheated yesterday on seeing the baby.
