Scan at 7 weeks...

DD1ofcolandgerry · 10/07/2008 20:37

I had a scan at 7 weeks and there was no heartbeat. There was a sac, with a blob in it, but no beating heart. The doc is bringing me back in 3 weeks and he said he expects to see it. He offered me an internal, saying that it would prob pick up the heartbeat, but I declined.

In my 1st pregnancy the heartbeat was clear at 7 weeks, am I panicing over nothing?????

you may not be 7 weeks

I went for a scan at 7 weeks with DS1, same as you, sac no heartbeat

I went back 2 weeks later, turned out i was only 5 weeks the 1st time round!

when i went back i was actully 7 weeks that time and baby was fine

biglips · 10/07/2008 20:39

how come you had the scans so early? as i didnt have mine till i was 13 weeks

Litterbug · 10/07/2008 20:46

had a bleed soon after + pg test.

DD1ofcolandgerry · 10/07/2008 20:47

Got an early scan as going private after traumatic time with DS1.

Am definitely 7 weeks, as have been ttc for a while, we are certain of af date and the date when we concieved (DH works away so sure about that one!!!)

I had an internal scan at around 6weeks and saw a heartbeat with ds1. but they did say it would be unlikely to see one on a regular scan.

babylove123 · 10/07/2008 22:51

I had a scan at 6 weeks and nothing - barely even a sac. Had another at 8 weeks and they couldnt see anything so i had the internal one. Was much much clearer (not the nicest thing but was worth it) and little heart was going! Dont worry too much, they dont tend to see anything before 8 weeks.

RegenerAitch · 10/07/2008 22:54

i bet you'd have seen it if you went for an internal, you nit. why didn't you have it? 7 weeks v early for an abdo scan to find a heartbeat.

mrsboogie · 10/07/2008 22:58

I had a scan at 7 weeks and saw no heartbeat even on the internal scan. One week later there it was. I am surprised the doc is asking you to wait three weeks - it should be visible in a week or so.

Plus - have the internal scan - its a breeze and it will save you a lot of worry!

Qally · 10/07/2008 23:08

I was sure of dates too, DH away for two weeks right after conception date and no opportunity for a week before. Seems it took 9 days for the egg and sperm to meet and implant or whatever needs to occur, because 2 NHS and 1 FMC scan all agree I'm due on the 14th, not 5th. So don't give up on that basis - you could well be between 5 and 6 weeks, which would explain the no heartbeat.

whomovedmychocolate · 10/07/2008 23:29

But the heart doesn't start till six weeks and four days on average! Umm Go back and have the internal scan you big wally. It doesn't take long, doesn't hurt and is excellent preparation for the indignities of labour!

They couldn't see anything on mine at week seven either, then a week later I was suddenly 10 weeks pregnant

DD1ofcolandgerry · 11/07/2008 19:52

Thank you everyone for all the positive responses, its so reassuring to hear that others experienced the same thing.

And yes I know im a idiot for not having the internal scan, but i just couldnt face it........loss of dignity at the birth is enough for me!!!

it's not bad, i promise. they're very discreet and there's no pain involved whatsoever.

minniedot · 11/07/2008 21:17

An internal scan will give you answers at 7 weeks.

I had an abdominal scan at 7 weeks and the sonographer couldn't see anything... I then had a vaginal one and saw a heartbeat and a little baby. I know you feel awkward about it but giving birth is much more graphic than a scan at 7 weeks.

Hope everything works out for.

silvermum · 11/07/2008 21:42

internal scan no big deal. no worse than a smear test really. go for it.

Blocky · 11/07/2008 21:55

Just to echo everyone here - had a scan at 6wks, which picked up nothing. Had internal scan straight after and picked up a heartbeat.

No pain, no fuss and was over in minutes. Have the internal scan - it will set your mind at rest.

BTW - by the time you give birth you wont give a flying fart about your dignity! Hope everything goes well for you

Sassafrass · 11/07/2008 22:04

It can take a fair while for the actual conception after sex, so even though you know when you had sex, you might have actually conceived several days later.

Hope the next scan goes well.

I had an internal scan after a bleed at 8 weeks could see heartbeat that wasn't picked up on non internal scan.
Good luck

Hello ladies

I am new to this site and desperate for answers that I cannot find.

I am 8 weeks pregnant (as I believed), my midwife gave my due date of 3rd July, this was worked out on a generic 28 day cycle however my cycle can be anything from 33-37 days! So I thought maybe it was a bit inaccurate. Anyway 2 days ago I started to bleed very off/on and quite light, and brown colour. I went to the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound, they picked up a sac and pole, no heartbeat though but only measured the equivalent of between 5/6 weeks!! So they sent me home and have to wait for ANOTHER week and also monitor bleeding. Next Friday they will do another scan to see if baby died and stopped growing a week or so back or whether baby grown and my dates are wrong! I am so very very upset. Don't know what to think. Part of me says stay confident, it is poss my dates are wrong and baby small etc, but cmmon sense says come on, you are bleeding and can't be 2 weeks wrong with dates...or can I??? HELP! I will never survive this week. Any advice would be great, I am driving myself potty. Has anyone had any experieneces similar? Many thanks

Knax · 22/11/2008 18:29

Hi Olive,
I'm in the same boat re dates and bleeding and scan on Tuesday. Am trying not to think about it! (Although am searching on here when shouldn't be!)
Lots of luck to you!!!!

electra · 22/11/2008 18:33

Don't worry at all - early scans can cause worry. At 7 weeks with one pregnancy the heartbeat could not be seen even with an internal scan, and the baby was fine

If you have a retroverted uterus it is harder to see too.

mumface · 23/11/2008 21:24

Hi, Olive i know how distressing this must b.I am due on 2nd July.I have a cycle of around 35days & with my last 2 pregnancies have had early scans.I have always been about 10-14 days less pregnant than i thought i was.If u think u ovulated about 7 days later than a 28day cycle person. Also sperm can live for 7days or more in the body.I also bled early with my first PG.My pregnancies were then fine. Hope this helps get u through the next week.

woodie88 · 26/11/2008 21:28

mummy2t · 26/11/2008 21:33

i went for scan after a bleed at 6 weeks and they couldnt detect a heatbeat until they did internal scan. xxx

mummy2t · 26/11/2008 21:50

internal scan is fine, i laughed at mine as they put a condom on the end of the internal scan bit and i said " bit late for one of those " lol

sherry1 · 06/12/2008 11:11

I ent for a scan yesterday, think I was at least 10 weeks. But the scan showed 6-7 weeks! So, Panic! However, after consulting dates, I may have conceived towards the end of my cycle. Im going for an internal scan on Fri so hopefully, we'll see a little heart beat going! SO we're trying to stay positive!
