Hillingdon hospital or Northwick park?

Hi
I am just 5 weeks pg, I have been to see the GP today she gave me the choice of Northwick Park hospital, or Hillingdon . I chose Hillingdon (even though Northwick Park is closer) because I have heard of poor reports about Northwick Parks Maternity unit.
HAs anyone here had any experience of eithere of them. What is your view?

Hi Cori

I know both hospitals but haven't personally experienced the maternity units in recent years. (my brother and sister were both born in Hillingdon but that was a long long time ago).

A friend of mine gave birth in Northwick Park about 4 years ago and just now realised that a doctor who was heavily involved with her CS turned out to be a charlatan without the right medical knowledge - apparently it has been in the news.

Now is there anyone out there who has given birth at Hillingdon.? It looks preferable to me.

I am under Hillingdon hospital (I am 30 weeks pregnant). So far I have just had dealings with the ante natal clinics but I am very impressed with all the staff I have encountered.

Most of my friends have given birth there and I don't think anybody has said anything bad about the place ... or perhaps they are just not telling me!!

Hi Cori - congrats on your pregnancy!

I had DS in April 2004 at Hillingdon Hospital (and subsequently went back there to talk to them about their lamentable lack of breastfeeding support on the postnatal ward). I would say that the antenatal ward and delivery suite were fantastic (I had a water birth with two midwives present at all times), but the postnatal ward wasn't as friendly.

Having said that, if I have another baby, I'll go back there (if DH doesn't come round to the idea of a birthing pool at home

I really didn't want to go to Northwick Park - I'd been there to a different clinic and the maternity wing looked uncared for. I didn't have good experiences with the clinic I was visiting there either, whereas I'd had a good experience with some day surgery previously at Hillingdon. I was offered Watford General too, but didn't fancy there either.

Where do you live? I'm in Ruislip. Hope that helps a bit - and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy/care.

Hi Cori, congrats on your pg! I'm 12wks myself now, so our seconds will be around the same age It would be great to see you at a meetup soon.

Thought I'd reply to this one (was looking on MN for any mention of NWPH as that's where I'm registered). I had ds at nwph in June 2003 and I must say I'm not looking forward to having baby no2. there. The antenatal care was ok, and actually when I went into labour I had two very good midwives towards the end (but barked at by one when only a few cm dilated and sent home again). However, post-natal dept was horrible, very dirty and unfriendly, and if I wasn't in shock being a new first-time mum (and completely exhausted), I wouldn't have stayed there over-night!

Hope Hillingdon is better for you. Definitely ask for a tour of both the delivery suites/area and post-labour area. HTH.

either nwph (5mins away) or central middlesex (about half an hours drive away), plus the latter is not in the most desirable of places... thinking about a home birth option at the mo actually... still 6 months to go though so anything could change in that time. We're hoping that all the extra money and expert support going towards the hospital will be in place and underway by the time baby comes in November.. but at the speed things happen in the NHS who knows..

THanks for all your replies.
I am going to Hillingdon Hospital, I have had my booking in appointment and I have to say I was very impressed with the midwife and the consultant, I spoke to them for an hour and they addressed all my concerns.
SO I am quite pleased at the momemt.
I have booked into pregnancy yoga classes as well, they start in 2 weeks, so I should get to know the hospital a bit better.

Ah, I see. I had wondered where you had gone.

Am off for another scan this afternoon. I had phone call from hospital this morning. I have some worrying blood test results.

Hi guys,
i dont know if you have seen my messages on the other threads.
Scan not good, no heartbeat detcted. Baby died week or two ago

Am going into hospital on friday for induction etc.

OMG Cori, how terrible. I haven't been able to check any other threads so will have a quick look now. I'm so sorry. I had a miscarriage before ds at 6.5 weeks. A good friend of mine has also just miscarried (last weekend) and she was a month behind us. It's so unfair. But what I told her was I wouldn't have my ds now if I hadn't miscarried as I fell pg with him when I should have been pg with my first baby. And of course he is the most wonderful ds in the world. So everything happens for a reason and both of you will fall pg again soon and this will be the baby that was meant to be. If you want to chat at all pls give me a ring (or CAT me if you've lost my number). hugs]]

Oh cori, I didn't realise you were almost 17wks, you're a month ahead of me and I thought we were the same (I'm just 13 wks). I know miscarriage is hard at anytime, but especially after the 12wk mark. I really cannot understand how you must be feeling. The girls on the m/c thread are giving good advice. Hope everything went ok.

I too had an early miscarriage before DS.
I thought like you, everything happens for a reason ( and for that pregnancy I could see a reason- DH father passed away in Australia the same month I would have been due)

I spent all of my last pregnancy worrying that something would go wrong, and it didnt. As you know I have a perfect little boy.
With this pregnancy I felt so confident, I wasnt worried about anything at all..... we dont have any of the finacial, emotional, or housing worries we had last time round.
I want to TTC as soon as possible but I know I will never be able to 'enjoy' being pregnant again,

But second trimester miscarriage is rare, it is just on here you see the human cases not just the statistics.

Good luck to you, I am sure you will have an event free pregnancy ( as most people do)
