and will be ds3 for us-we are overjoyed to have a healthy baby in there but i was dreading telling people.

I told my neigbour and her reaction was
"oh another blue one, are you alright" wrinkling her nose up at the same time.

I was so thrown just went eh? course im alright!

I dont care what I have, I just want a big family-im not trying for a girl, im not devastated its a boy, i'm thrilled (if a little thrown as too name choices) why do other people have to be so blindingly rude!

Hi, I have three boys too - they are lovely (and appalling of course - ds2 loves to ask if I can smell his bottom noises!)

I broke strict rule I had with ds 1 and 2 that I wasn't going to use any family names - the only way I could find any more boys names that I liked for ds3.

I get the same - but you have to remember that people project how they feel and what they want on to you! I've lost count of the "poor you"'s and "will you try for another"'s. I find it genuinely confusing - when did having a child of a particular sex get to be such a misfortune?! Girl or boy, they are individuals not stereotypes.

FWIW I love my boys with a passion. Yes they are loud, confident and physical, but they are also incredibly loving and affectionate. I get told all the time how beautiful I am and how much I'm loved. And if that's a misfortune, then I feel sorry for anyone who feels sorry for me!

I suppose its because people can't imagine living with 4 boys (me included)!! Thats a lot of testosterone in the house But I have heard lots of ladies on here who are happy with 2/3 DS's so it can't be so bad! Probably they don't realise they are making a silly comment and imagine everyone wants an equal no of each. Ignore them, as long as you are happy then who cares!

I am currently expecting no 1 and have no idea what either flavour would be like!

I had the same when expecting DS3. I didn't actually know he was going to be a boy, but everyone seemed to assume that I wanted a girl. I just wanted a healthy baby hence the reason I didn't find out what I was having - I didn't mind!

And now I get 'So, are you going to try for a girl?' Er nope

I am having DS2 in November and I too am astonished by how rude people can be. Sympathetic faces, lots of oh well you can try another time, etc. In my case I was absolutely over the moon and delighted as I am a carrier of a genetic condition which is much more serious in girls - I wept with joy for a whole day when I found this one was a boy as I had a termination two years ago when I was carrying an affected girl. Of course you don't say all this when (well-meaning) strangers say things to you but sometimes you do feel like it!! I think I always felt like this but truly since DS1 had all his health problems with the genetic condition in question I can hand on heart say I am amazed by anybody who cares about the gender of their child for anything other than health reasons. But having said that I do know that it is a big issue for some people (although usually people who are lucky enough to have had easy conceptions and pregnancies and healthy children). Here's to all healthy babies, blue, pink or in between!!

Congratulations!! I'm pg with number 3 after two DDs and would love another girl...or a boy... I really truly don't mind, as long as it's well and healthy. I get loads of comments as well, normally along the lines of 'poor DH', 'bet your DH is hoping for a boy' etc. Agree, it's rude and presumptuous.
