Tell me your pregnancy test stories! I 'heart' reading how people found out they were expecting!

With my first pregnancy I had been in bed with "stomach flu" for days. When the vomiting had first started I had done a test but it was negative. After three days of vomiting but no other symptom I used the spare test and a faint second line appeared. DH was at the gym and I was going crazy trying to interpret the second line. In the end I called two friends and asked them before I even told DH! Then I left him a message on his mobile asking him to come home via the chemist with the most sensitive test he could buy. He returned with four different ones and I peed on all of them before we beleived the result!

LOL, bless him coming back with 4!!

we had started TTC, and had done it all by the book, like a military operation, two days before i was due on , i slept 17 hours out of 24 and felt like death. i thought i was really desperately ill. kept saying to DH that there was something wrong with me. we went and bought a test and came home and i drank loads of water. no FMU for me ! went into loo, weed on it, and then nearly passed out when it was positive !! we had to go into town to get some bits and bobs and he bought me a dozen red roses. second time i tested alone and phoned him at work to tell him !

With no2 dh asked me a week before I was due whether I could be pg. It hadn't even occured to me, I don't know what he noticed, but he was absolutely right!

No, I tell a lie, morning sickness had already started, but I thought it was travel sickness. Of course, once the idea that I might be pg was put in my head, the ms became much worse, and very obviously ms, too.

First time I was convinced I was pg but dh came out with "youalways think your pg" line.
I went to work, bought a test in my morning break and did it in the loo's, had to stop myself screeching and went and called dh at home to tell him. His brother was there so all he ended up saying was "oh right, yep ok I understand, thanks bye"

Second time I was convinced I was pg again, just booked a skiing holiday and dh had gone to his brothers (pattern emerging here) to give him some money for the trip. I did the test while he was there, it came up positive so cue a desperate phone call to him to say dont give him the money cos we wont be able to go.

Third was completely unexpected but I had a niggly feeling I might be pg but I had only had second child 5 months previous, did the test and it was positive. I had to lie down on the bed as I thought I was going to pass out, waited till the funny feeling passed, ran downstairs in streams of tears, screamed at dh to get off the phone NOW and announced that my life was over

Found out we were expecting dd two days before we moved into our new house. We were homeless at the time, we had had to move out of old house due to quick sale and had to wait months before we could move into new one and were staying with MIL.

So after months of waiting around clicking our heels, everything good seemed to be happening at once!

Had been ttc DC1 for three months so wasn't a complete surprise, but the fact that this was our month only gradually dawned on me as my symptoms weren't classic symptoms iyswim. Anyway, had an idea that this was it so peed on an internet supercheapy then laid it on the side while I made myself some breakfast. The faintest possible line slowly appeared so ended up eating my breakfast while simultaneously laughing and crying hysterically. Tried to finish breakfast but ladies on the internet made me go out and buy a CB digi to know for sure. Came back and peed on that and it came up instantly so wrapped it up with the Bloke's Guide to Pregnancy to give to DH later. Then had to spend the day not emailing DH (unusually) as didn't want either to lie to him or tell him by email. Gave him the wrapped up test and book when he came to pick me up from work (note - it is pointless giving someone a +ive test in a dark car - they can't see it!) then he drove home saying nothing but "OMG" every ten minutes or so while I, having had 12 hours to digest, rabbited on at him.

Well, I'd always been irregular with my periods and somehow with starting a new job and moving and loads of stress I just didn't notice it was awol altogether for a couple of months. I'd started getting a lift into work in the mornings with a woman who drove down country lanes like a demon, and had been suffering with terrible car sickness every morning because of her erratic driving...

It wasn't til christmas (about 10 weeks gone ish) I started to think "waaaaait a second..." and on the last day of work before the holidays I (convinced I was being a silly sod) bought a pg test on my lunch hour, came back to work, and in the quietest loo in the building, sat in absolute shock for about 20min as the lovely big strong line flashed up within about 0.3 of a second.

I told dp later in starbucks over a gingerbread latte. His first words on the subject were: "So my balls work, then"

Yet more shock when we found out I was almost 3 months gone!

Tried for a couple of months then gave up as we were going on hols - 4 (happy) days into a great all inclusive resort in bahamas realised that peiod had not come - and that it was Christmas eve so spent the afternoon looking for a chemist with kits - found one and spent christmas day happy and SOBER.

We'd only been TTC for a few weeks. I have a job where I sometimes have to do emergency standby work (flood warning) at home. AF has never been brilliantly regular, but in Jan this year I was trying to count up to no more than 29 days and had got to 37, so I thought I'd better do a test. One Saturday DH was out so I walked up to the next village to get one (I know the pharmacist in my village and I didn't want tongues wagging) then was paged and had to do some work. Did test in the few minutes peace I got between work calls. Got BFP on a digi test almost straight away, then got paged again, did more work, DH came in and I carried on working. About three hours later work crisis was over and I and showed DH. I'd known for a few hours without telling him,but my brain had been too full of flood warnings to stop and tell him. He said "Well it's not that surprising" but his massive grin said everything else. Sat around stunned for a few hours trying to work out how far gone. Until pager went of again....

had been TTC for two years, on 3rd month of clomid did the test, which i thought was negative as the line was so faint, so went and cried and drank too much. Noticed the very faint line later when emptying the bin, sent DH out at 6am the next morning to get more tests (but had to pee in the meantime) so that test wa negative. 2 more tests later had a big bold blue line. thankfully the wine didn't do DS any harm.

I realised whilst on the Tower of Terror in Florida when I felt queasy. I never feel sick on these things.

Waited until we were back in the UK to do the test; wish I hadn't since pg tests are half the price in the US

we'd been ttc for 2-3 months, and the day before my period was due, i was just about to take my 1st Ritalin tablet of the day, and, as i picked up the blister pack, an internal voice just bellowed "NO!"
no "mmmmm, maybe wait till you've done a test.....", it was a very definite NO
so later that day, i nipped out to get a test, and it was +ve
phoned DP, who took the call outside his work building
a colleague of his, who was coming over on the friday night for supper with his GF walked by, and DP said "Oi, Minou's up the duff"
Colleague responded...."Yeah, great, but the scoff's still on, innit?"
spent the rest of the day on the phone telling everyone

I was BBT charting when we were TTC DD & had been testing from about CD14 lol!!

The morning that AF was due I took a test & it was neg

I trundled off to work feeling a bit tearful & was getting really bad AF pains to the point where I was knicker checking every 5 mins.

I got home from work & was sat on the loo when I decided to pull the bin over & have a look at my tests again (don't know why) & there was a second line - an exporation line I thought to myself but decided to do another test - but a proper one. (Had been using the dip tests).

Even before I had the HPT down there was a very strong second line - I couldn't believe it & was in shock!!

I re-read the instructions for the dip tests I had & turns out I had been reading them to soon - these took 5 mins & I'd been reading them after 3 - turns out I'd been PG all along but had been reading them to soon!!!!!!!

This time around I treated myself to a CB Digital & I left the test on the side whilst I went to make a cuppa, came back & there was that magic word - Pregnant

we'd been ttc for 2 months. Each month I convinced self I was pg and did tests only for period to arrive.
However, following month was trying to diet and exercise like mad as was going abroad for friends hen weekend.
So, period was due day was supposed to be leaving. For some reason, I hadn't convinced self was pg that month so didn't do a test before I left and proceeded to drink like fish for next 2 days Didn't even occur to me that could be pg when period still hadn't appeared and went through entire box of tampax convinced "it was just coming" However on third day had v v extreme hangover that was out of ordinary - just wanted to sleep all day. Did strange spanish test and after staring at line on test and on picture on leaflet for ages in shock I eventually phoned dh with the news!
Could not believe it when he said "I thought you could be" Then I clicked that had failed terribly at the dieting, had been eating crisps - which normally don't eat at all - before dinner, and strangely had been unable to do sit ups as kept feeling sick.
God, sorry this is so long

after two miscarriages followed by two years of utter misery that included two failed IVFs, we were advised to give ivf one more shot - but were given only a 5% chance of success. my consultant saw me a few days before my cycle was to end, and said he wanted to put me on birth control pills to prepare for the IVF. i said i didn't want to do that because i just "had a feeling" - even after 23 barren cycles. i didn't have any symptoms, it really was just a wild and hopeful hunch. A few days later, the day before AF was due, i suddenly felt very ill whilst out jogging. I took a test first thing the next morning and was blown away to see the two lines after so long trying. i went back to bed grinning and casually told DH two hours later when he woke up. he was like - huh?? How??
was totally fab.
I'm now 36 weeks and so excited to meet our little guy!!

I came off the pill and had half heartedly been trying to ttc for 2 or 3 months, but was always very upset when I realised I'd failed. Had an incredibly long cycle so it always seemed such a wait to try again. Cut down on drinking but didn't stop etc. Then we went all out and did it properly, more sex than even DH could be bothered with, no drinking, healthy eating etc. I went away to the LAkes with friends over a weekend and expected my period on the Monday. They guessed I was trying within the first 5 minutes so luckily I didn't have to make excuses for not drinking. Came home, desperate to know and with a painful coccyx! We kept putting off testing as we wanted to know but also to live in ignorance. By Thursday morning I gave up and did the deed - got a clear, dark line almost instantly DH was half asleep when I told him but that woke him up pretty fast

After 3 years off the pill I was due to see the GP about my incredibly long epic cycles (again) and did a test as I was used to the routine at the GP's and thought I might just as well do one at home as I had spare ones. I knew it would be -ve anyway as DP and I were not regularly BDing to say the least.
I got a +ve straight away , so did two more tests and still didn't believe the results I had to text my friend to ask her if you can get 3 false +ves lol! The false positives turned three two weeks ago Back to square one though with trying for number two

We thought we'd start trying to have a baby in a year or so... so we'd have one in two years from january... right... at beginning of jan. had an early miscarriage... we were shocked because didn't even think we would get pg at this time (ok... so we were a bit irresponsible with birth control - but we were just married in october). Dr told me after the MC that I likely wouldn't ovulate for a few months.
DH and I interpreted "wow! free birth control without hassle of remembering anything!"
so 5 weeks later, no period - we're pg
but now we're sooooooooo excited

We decided to start ttc in January 2003. Didn't seriously think anything would happen for a few months - but I went to my grandad's funeral at the beginning of February. Felt utterly shite all day - put it down to sadness - couldn't even go to the pub with my cousins after the wake. Fell asleep in the car on the way back (mum was driving).

Next day - tada! - BFP. Being able to give such wonderful news to my grieving mother was the most amazing feeling ever.

With dd2, we just knew ages before the test .
