Weird rash ...

I'm 39wks tomorrow and I have developed a weird rash on my hand just like a nettle sting. It's itchy like that too.

This is probably nothing to do with pregnancy, but just wanted to check it out in case it's a sign of something deadly!

Thanks!

You could just have an allergy or it could be obstetric cholestasis so worth getting it checked. I haven't had it but friend did - see symptoms:

(From BBC website)
Specific symptoms of obstetric cholestasis include:

Itching that generally begins - or is most intense - on the arms, legs, palms of the hands and soles of the feet
Itching that's usually worse at night
Problems sleeping
Tiredness
Poor appetite
Nausea
Jaundice - yellowing of whites of eyes and skin (uncommon)

Hmmm ... itching is on the back of my hand, on my knuckles specifically so that doesn't really fit.

I'm sleeping ok, been tired for about nine months anyway, got a good appetite and felt sick a lot throughout so haven't really got any other symptoms.

Thanks for the info, petitfilou!

Ok that's good - maybe worth taking some piriton to see if that calms it down (if you can take that in pregnancy - I'm not sure but NHS Direct would tell you if you rang them up)

I had a pregnancy related dermatitis from about 36 weeks called PUPPP (try googling it) that started on my wrists and spread over most of my body - intensely itchy but not harmful and disappeared after the birth. I put calamine lotion on it. Worth getting checked out if it gets any worse.

Thanks MummyToOneForNow, can I ask you what your rash looked like? As I mentioned above, mine is exactly like a nettle sting, little white raised bumps, was it anything like that?

No - it was more red - started off with red spots some of which merged into solid red raised areas - sorry - I hadn't twigged that nettle stings are white so probably not relevant.

Thanks for mentioning it anyway. Ah well, doesn't seem to be anything definitely pregnancy related. I have a mw appointment on Wed, if it's still there then I might mention it.

Thanks again!

I've got some funny rash like spots today on my bump and nowhere else, but they are not itchy at all and got really pale in the pm so I didnt bother to ring up MW, will do so if still there tomorrow...
