I just had a nuchal scan at 12 weeks and was sure I saw a penis, the sonographer just grinned!! Has anyone had any experience of seeing what they thought was a penis but turning out to be a girl????

Did anyone after having Nuchal scan have an amnio even though results were low risk of having downs??

Here's a great link baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html which explains how that early on you are looking at the angle of the genital tubercle. My consultant who did the scan also explained the same theory.
Mine was a boy at 12, 17 and 23 weeks (no mistaking by then!) so I am pretty confident... but let's wait and see!

poppy, why would you want an amnio if there were no high risk indications you needed one? it is an invasive procedure that carries a risk of miscarraige

I've decided not to, had one on both previous pregnancies cos of my blood always comes back high risk - but this time after the nuchal scan its came out 1:1500 which is good for me....

well, that seems like a low risk... when you have your next scan you can ask them the gender?

I think I'm worrying cos I'm 39 chick!!! I've got a genetic disorder which affects the brain, so far everything looks fine although they did think they saw a cyst last week but made a mistake!!! Been in a right state, know more next Tuesday got another scan! So fingers crossed!!!

The ladies on the site seem to be experts at determing a babys sex from a 12 week scan photo using the 'nub' theory.
No guarantees obviously but no harm in trying to find out if you're desperate to know.
