Piles in late pregnancy - HELP!

Am 36 weeks with DC3, also have SPD which is quite severe, using support belt and crutches when able. Unable to lie on my sides much even with big maternity pillow and so sitting up to sleep has been my only way of ensuring some kip until the bedreaded piles made an appearance (both piles and SPD also kicked in last year at 35+ but no so severe).

Am in real pain with the piles, am using everything i can to shrink them but nothing seems to be really working. Can't keep codeine down for pain and today I am on 2 hours sleep again, have been walking around all night like a zombie.

Any suggestions on pain relief or what i can do? Should i be calling GP or something? Honestly finding it unbearable to walk/sit, can't sleep, SPD is not helping and I'm going mad....HELP!

At this stage of pregnancy you can drink water and eat fruit & veg till the cows come home and it won't make much difference unless you have very hard poo.

Germoloids suppositories & cream contain a local anaesthetic which some other brands don't have. It will help a bit.

I think it's worth speaking to your GP. It'll be a long month otherwise.

The good news is that they do clear up fairly quickly post-birth.

Thanks DONB - Am using a brand that is not the one you mentioned so will perhaps get me some of that. Anything is worth a try, thanks.

i usewd to have to use i know not nice but them plastic ice cubes used to have to pop one of them well you can get picture was lovely eased inflammation and cooled itching

i was told could only use anusol through pregnancy but ask mw or gp they may have new one thats ok in pregnancy now but ice was really good near instant relief

I hadn't thought of actual ice cubes, i did resort to some frozen peas in the wee hours of the night though, took some out of big pack and placed into v.small freezer bag and used them to cool area but for some reason the sensation left me feeling v.dizzy - could have been the codeine kicking in but was really weird.
Perhaps will also try ice cubes. Anything...anything.....

definatley phone your GP. I,m 33wks and have had trouble with piles. My doctor prescribed anusol which helped. Friends had differing advise for what helped them. One bought Ice poles and said they were easier to manage than the ice cubes. I ended up sitting my bum in shallow bath of just warm water (not hot) and then putting my cream on afterwards.

Thank you all for the advice, much appreciated. Have just used the Germoloids as opposed to other brand and can't believe it's actually started working already. I am in heaven!! Can now hopefully get some sleep and be comfortable.

As for the ice i used some ice cubes (the wonderful things i admit to in PG) gave v.temporary relief - again thanks for replies.
