Can you??

I was hoping i may be able to get one at about 38-39 weeks.

Also what are the chances of it working??

I had one with ds but i was having regular contractions all day but wasnt dilating, 3 hours later he was out...

I requested one at bang on 40 weeks but our area doesn't do them at all until at least 41 weeks.

iliketosleep · 04/07/2008 23:59

well my reason for wanting one is that she is due the day before dd2s birthday and im a bit scared her day is going to be ruined if i go a day over or on date and am too tired to spend time with her etc

I dont know if its a good enough reason though

from what I've researched and from friends experience a sweep is painful and not very effective - is there any reason why you want it? I think it can set in to motion a series of interventions

claremu · 05/07/2008 10:18

sorry just saw reason - I suppose it's up to you then!!

milknosugar · 05/07/2008 10:22

i would say the opposite clare - i had a couple with ds3 and they didnt hurt any more than a smear and mw said they were very effective! didnt start me off but i had some contractions after each and i think it helped get me going on my own. when it came to ds4 they said i couldnt have one til 19 days overdue. then mw said internal exams do the same job and she had to do one and off i went. it only works if labout is fairly imminent so can be an alternative to being induced.

how old is dd? i bet she would be thrilled to have a baby for her birthday. just make plans that someone else can easily take over if necessary (i had this problem with ds4 being v close to ds1s bday, but he stayed put and ds1 was v disappointed)

milknosugar · 05/07/2008 10:22

10 days overdue, not 19

A sweep is an intervention and as such is more likely to lead to more interventions than if you go into labour naturally

most babies need 40 weeks in the womb at least (75% babies born AFTER due date) so trying to chuck them out a couple of weeks early is ill advised IMO
if your dates are slightly out then you could be looking at a 37 week baby with some respiratory difficulties

I think having one early to avoid clashing with a birthday is a really DUFF reason, sorry

your dd can have her birthday celebrations on another day if the baby arrives and overshadows it

I think you are having a spot of pg madness here tbh (and you have my sympathy, I was due yesterday)

iliketosleep · 05/07/2008 10:39

DD will be 7 and would LOVE lil sis to be born on her birthday but i dont want it to be a case of hold on you can have your presents when ive popped out the baby lol

I suppose im just planning everything out in my head as a lot will be going on and as the birth is out of my control its making me panick.

"i dont want it to be a case of hold on you can have your presents when ive popped out the baby lol"

well in an ideal world, no - but things like birthdays ARE moveable and we can work round that - a 7 year old understands that

but things like a baby needing as much time in the womb for its wellbeing is not something we should be changing for our own convenience - you're talking a baby being born maybe 2 or 3 weeks early here

I'm due number 3 10 days before DD1's 4th birthday, DD1 wants the baby to be born in her birthday I dont want to be that overdue.

Anyway I had a sweep at 41 weeks with DD2 did nothing was bloody uncomfortable too felt like she was trying to pull my tonsils out. I think some babies just need more time that others and no matter what you do they will come when they are ready, I tried everything known to man and woman to shift DD2 and nothing worked.

This time MW offered me an internal at 39 weeks and I refused may have one this week at 40 weeks to see if anything is going on.

sk

how are you? not long for you now!!

Where has the time gone?

I suppose in hindsight it isn't a good idea, just exploring my options, will just have to cross my fingers open my legs and hope for the best.....

Deja vu from 34 weeks ago.......

Utterly miserable ILTS, desperate for this LO to come out, bad SPD too

These babies should really come with a delivery date.

iliketosleep · 05/07/2008 12:11

she will be here before you know it although i can imagine how uncomfortable you must be!
