Gp didn’t put pregnancy related on the sicknote

Can GP amend my sicknote ?
i am pregnant and struggling with bad nausea and vomiting but mainly it’s the relentless nausea . She did the sicknote this evening but just wrote nausea. I wanted it to say pregnancy related nausea , possibly the fact that it is relentless despite medications. It makes it sounds like I got gastroenteritis.
if I ring again first thing tomorrow morning, can they amend it ? I hope they don’t refuse as I need it for work . I am already over the 7 days but it took 3 days just to get them to give me the appointment to request it 🙄🙄

What does it matter what it says? You have your fit note so sorted

Because pregnancy related sickness absence can't be counted against you whereas it can be outwith pregnancy.

Because pregnancy related sick leave can't be used towards attendance trigger points or incur penalties.

Yes op, ask them to amend and explain this is why.

Because pregnancy related sickness gets recorded separately and it cannot by law trigger disciplinary actions . I was unwell for quite a long time last time with hyperemesis, lost weight so it might not be a matter of a just a week . Hopefully I’ll get it changed

No harm in calling in the morning to ask. If they won't, can you explain to your HR department? Surely they would understand that it's hard to get GP to change sick notes or even write them in the first place?

amidsummernightsdream · 20/10/2026 20:42

It’s factually correct. Its doesnt need to be descriptive.

You sound like you want it to justify why you need the time off, you dont need to do that.
The note itself is proof you’re not well enough to work.

Yetanotherone12 · 20/10/2026 20:42

How far along are you?

after a certain point iirc pregnancy related sickness triggers maternity leave.

otherwise it makes no difference why you are on sick leave.

amidsummernightsdream · 20/10/2026 20:44

Apologies, i have seen your update and I understand what you mean now in relation to it being specifically pregnancy related

Redfluffyblanket · 20/10/2026 20:45

You can tell work it's pregnancy related and ask then to record it as such. I would do that for you.

Loving the naivety of all those so shocked that you might want it to be recorded as pregnancy related.

Just 8 weeks . It does actually matter as pregnancy sickness is recorded separately. They can’t sack you basically because you are sick if it’s due to pregnancy . I mean I wouldn’t be able to go to work regardless but I don’t want to also risk my job.

Not until 4 weeks before EDD. OP has been very unlucky if she's still getting morning sickness then!

Try and get it amended, but if they don’t then just tell your work it is pregnancy related. They’d be brave/stupid to just treat it as non pregnancy related rather than err on the side of caution given nausea is a comment effect in pregnancy. Feel better soon!

I know ! I’m surprised as well. Worked as already put it as pregnancy related ( the first 7 days ) so they know but you just think the GP would write it . It’s already been 3 days overdue . Can’t wait to join the 8 am queue tomorrow morning🙄

Might do that ,if I get nowhere with the GP 🤦🏼 maybe I could send the email with maternity certificate I guessed if they need proof . I work in ED as a nurse so it’s just too much for how I am feeling now.

I had HG too, so you have my sympathies. I can’t see why the dr can’t just add pregnancy-related. I was hospitalised about 7 times so work was way down my list of priorities.

Hope it doesn’t last too long.
