Blood test HCG of 50 at 12DPO after 3 miscarriages

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice and experiences because I’m feeling really anxious and don’t know what to think.

I’m 34 and have had three missed miscarriages in the past year, all diagnosed at around 10 weeks. One was tested and found to have trisomy 13, and the other two were unexplained. I’ve had recurrent miscarriage investigations and everything came back normal.

I have a living child and am now pregnant again, but after everything that’s happened I’m finding it incredibly difficult not to worry.

My last period started on 19 September. I had a positive LH test around 6 October and think I ovulated on 7 October, which would make me around 12DPO on 19 October.

I got a positive Clearblue digital test showing “Pregnant 1–2”

I had blood tests on 19 October and my hCG came back at 50. I’m worried this is low for where I think I am in my cycle but I don't really know

Has anyone had an hCG of around 50 at 12–14DPO and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? Equally, if you had a similar result and it turned out to be a chemical, I’d appreciate hearing about that too.

I know nobody can tell me what will happen from one number or a photo, but I’m struggling with the uncertainty after my previous losses.

Thank you for reading x

My understanding is that the actual hCG number can vary wildly from person to person but the important part is the rate at which it increases. Thats what will give you more useful information.

You can implant between days 6-12 and your hcg should then start doubling every 2 days (it will be under 10 prior to pregnancy).
Even if you implanted on day 6 (rare), and hcg started at, say, 5 -
Day 8 - hcg 10
Day 10 - hcg 20
Day 12 - hcg 40
Day 14 - hcg 80
But average implantation is day 8-9 so in that case you would be 2 days behind the above.
I think 50 at 12 days is a great number! Congratulations :-)

When are you having your next blood test? I dont think it's particularly low. I think the next blood test will show how things are developing because you'll have a baseline. I was told my Hcg was low following ICSI and my daughter is now 7.

I know its hard especially following miscarriages but try and be positive until you have reason not to be. Try not to let anxiety rob you of your happiness. I had icsi. I had lots of failed cycles and lost 2 sets of twins. When I was pregnant with my daughter I bled from conception to 18 weeks and was on bed rest (not something they recommend now). I didnt enjoy a single bit of my pregnancy. Not one. It was scary and miserable. It also impacted my postnatal time. I wish I'd got support during the pregnancy so my MH was better once my baby was born.

Good luck with this pregnancy. I hope you get your little miracle x

Hi OP, I can't comment on hcg levels but I was just wondering have you asked your GP or RPL specialist if you can be prescribed progesterone, aspirin, clexane etc - i have a similar history as you and my private obstetrician gave me the above.
