BF when pregnant - is the pain normal or thrush?

I am 8 weeks pregnant and still feeding DS who is 3. Feeding has always got a bit uncomfortable just before my period but since I've been pg it is agony when he latches on. The pain subsides through the feed as long as he keeps quite still.

I am wondering if this is normal, and if so, will it continue all the way through the pregnancy? I am also left wondering if maybe I have thrush? 5 out of 6 of my friends who have given birth recently have all (eventually) been diagnosed with it and although I've never had it before I wonder if maybe it is the sort of thing that is brought on by pregnancy?

It is normal - latching is absolute agony for the first trimester. I'm 15 weeks now and it is a bit ouchy sometimes but far, far less painful than it was at 8 weeks.

I gave up when I was 4 months pg with DS2 as it became so painful. Like passing broken glass.

Different people have different experiences whilst breastfeeding and pregnant.

Although I got fairly sore at 8 weeks pregnant, it has never been very painful.

I am still nursing 22 month old DD at 34 weeks pregnant, still have milk and no pain whilst nursing.

I would check out the possibility of thrush with your doctor or health visitor just in case.
