CW: pregnancy loss, bleeding in pregnancy
I’m currently pregnant after three previous miscarriages, and I’m under consultant-led care in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board area (Princess of Wales, Bridgend and Prince Charles, Merthyr).
I’ve had bleeding and pain on and off throughout. Once I passed 12 weeks, the Early Pregnancy Unit told me they could no longer see me. Then the maternity unit told me they won’t see me until 16 weeks. Staff keep calling it a “grey area”, but the only option I’ve been given when I bleed is A&E. I’ve ended up travelling between hospitals, waiting hours, and getting different advice from every department.
Thankfully baby is OK for now, but it’s been frightening, and I can’t be the only one this has happened to.
I’ve made a formal complaint, and my MSs and the Llais advocacy service are now involved. I’m hoping to gather other women’s experiences, and possibly start a Senedd petition, so that there’s a clear service for women between 12 and 16 weeks.
Has anything similar happened to you, whether in this health board or elsewhere in Wales or the UK? Even a quick reply here would help. If you’d rather share privately, you can email me at [campaign email]. Nothing will be shared without your permission, and no names will be used.
Thank you for reading. I know this is a hard subject for a lot of people. 💛
