Slapped cheek in v early pregnancy

Well, am pretty sure dd has it, though I thought she had already ahd it, aged 3 (she is 6)

I am just 4 weeks pregnant, do I get a blood test? stressing now, have no idea if have had it or not...

would you believe, exact same scenario when pg with ds, but with chicken pox!

id ring the doctors or midwife just to check.

Its the first 20 weeks thats the most risk so better safe than sorry. They will just check to see if you have immunity to it.

saw GP today, and am having a blood test tomorrow to see if have been in contact with the virus, and also she is sending me for an early scan - not really sure why that is, though, all worried now. you know the way you have so many questions and don't ask them all at the time...?

Dinny I was tested for this recently as ds had it - try not to worry too much as most people are immune (I was). I am surprised GP is sending for early scan before the blood test results are back though - seems unecessary. If you want to read more about it then look it up on NHS Direct - there is a good explanation of potential problems on there but I warn you it will just get you more worried. Try to focus on the fact that most likely you are already immune.

yeah, that's what I thought, Petitfilou...anyway, am seeing midwife next week so will discuss further with her...
I think it takes quite a while for the results to come back for this, doesn't it?

had EXACT same thing when pg with ds - dd had chicken pox and my mum wasn't sure I'd had it - panic panic!

Yes, annoyingly took two weeks for my results to come back. Fingers crossed all ok for you.

I had this situation too. It helped me to remember that, even if I turned out to have the virus (and the chances of that are v small), the chances of it affecting the baby are tiny even then.

It is annoying the results take so long - 3 weeks for me. I think they must have to grow the virus in the lab each time or something.

Slapped cheek can be harmful at any time during pregnancy, but the risks are very small.

I thought dd2 and I had this recently, and asked my GP for a blood test - he hadn't heard of it so googled it while I was there! He took the blood and it turns out I didn't have it, and have never had it either.

i had this scare and have it again

i think 9-20 is biggest risk
I had repeated exposure at 14 weeks, am not immune and have been having tests everything weeks and have not yet contracted it

ds2 now actauuly has it and i am 29 weeks - i have more tests and a scan tomorrow just to be safe

have you had any booking bloods done yet? my tests were compared to booking bloods to see if exposed while pregnant - as it is, i am not immune

I thought my owrry phase had passed and was getting quite cross at the constant blood tests motnsh down the line then BANG ds2 has it this morning!"

I am 37 weeks and caught the virus from DD when I was 27 wwwks. I live in France and they gave me a scan every week to check if the baby was developping anaemia which is the major risk. They now have a new technique where they can monitor this before the anaemia gets severe.
The risks of the baby catching the virus are small, and even if he catches it, the risks of anamemia are pretty small too.

You're welcome! There's an epidemic in my region at the moment and my doctor said she only saw one case of it affecting the baby and that was a few years ago, before the new techniques where they can monitor the baby for anaemia. The good thing is that I was able to see my baby every week for the past 10 weeks :-)
