Any ladies care to share thier experiences of thier waters breaking... Preferably those whose waters broke before contractions started.

What happened? How did it feel? how long after did you give birth?

Thanks

aww pigley you poor thing it's hard when you don't know if this is it

With DD1 I thought I had peed myself not a huge gush more a trickle that didn't stopped.

Advice I was given is put on pad on and see if it gets wet, for me it just kept trickling.

Contractions started not long after and baby born about 4 hours after that.

Fingers crossed

Membranes went on Tuesday morning just after 36 week antenatal appointment. I heard & felt a 'pop' then a massive gush of fluid.

The baby wasn't engaged so I had to go in because of the risk of cord prolpase - contractions started about 2 hours later - had a very badly managed labour & dd was born by emergency section on Friday.

My waters broke before contractions started with both of mine.

With dd I was asleep at the time, I woke up thinking I had wet myself. Continued to trickle. Contractions started approx. 4 hours later.

With ds, I had just gone to the toilet, stood up and quickly had to sit back down again as the waters broke in a gush. Mild contractions started about 5 hours later then stopped, straight into painful contractions 6 hours after that.

All night I had some 'leaking', got up to go to the toilet constantly... Then at 6 am I felt a small pop and had a small 'show' From then on water trickled constantly, no gush though until I arrived at hsopital and was lying on the bed with the midwife frantically pushing towels under me (a c-section was planned as DD was breech - but DD decided to come one week earlier than planned section). Never had any contractions at all - not even braxton hicks...

Definitely not a gush but I knew I hadn't wet myself - it is different. Less happy story I'm afraid (though outcome still good) - quite a bit of waters went midnight Wed, 2 hrs at hosp being monitored, more went Thurs eve, another 2hrs, checkup and scan Friday morning, induced with pessary Friday afternoon, argument about not being put on drip Friday evening, baby born with no further interventions thankfully by 11pm Friday! So no natural labour for me but still had a natural birth, 10 mins of pushing, just G&A. Good luck hope yours start soon!

no popping senstion, no sudden gush. Was on the loo, having a wee and thought this was going on for some time! Wasn't sure if it was my waters because I could control the flow so ended up inspecting it in the loo for traces of vernix (sorry TMI). That was at 10, regular contractions started just after 2, painful by 3.

sorry forgot to add baby born 10 1/2 hours later

Mine was a gush in bed and it continued gushing for the next 12 hours whenever I moved, i'm not joking! I didn't go into established labour for 12 hours after my waters broke and labour lasted 6 hours.

Thought I needed a wee waters went with a gush baby born ........ about 4 or 5 minutes later when I was going back from bedroom to bathroom as I thought I needed another wee

iamamummy · 01/07/2008 11:13

mine went at 8:30pm was sittig at the dining table and felt wet - stood up and an almighty gush which was constant for about 2 hours although it did subside after the initial gush

contractions started at 3:45am bearable until about 9:30am baby was born at 1:41pm

i had a natural birth with no intervention, had planned for a homebirth but transferred at 11:30am for epidural which did not work.

mishymoo · 01/07/2008 11:15

I was lying in bed and felt a period type cramp, felt urge to wee, as I stood up there was a little leak. Just managed to get to the loo and all hell broke loose I was gushing for about 5 minutes or so. My contractions were then about 10 minutes apart but suddenly changed to 2-3 minutes apart.

From when my waters broke to my DS being born was about 6 1/2 hours.

Does anyone know if you always have to go in to be checked out once your waters have gone?

Is there only a risk of cord prolapse if lots comes out / gushing?

You have to phone the maternity ward if your waters break, and they will probably tell you to go in just to beon the safe side
