Early scan

Hello, looking to book an early scan when I will be 7 weeks 3 days. Will this be possible to do without an internal scan? Would like to avoid if possible but anxious it is still early!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi, no you’ll need an internal as they’re trying to locate something the size of a pip! I have had lots of internal scans and they’re honestly nothing to worry about. It can be a bit uncomfortable, but I didn’t find it painful.

It might be!
I had a 7w 3d scan with my daughter after recurrent loss and they initially tried to do a pelvic scan, so they clearly considered it an option, but they couldn't see clearly enough, so they switched to internal and were able to confirm all was well.

Good luck OP. Wishing you happiness and health for your pregnancy 🍀🩷

Better off waiting a week or so if you must have an early scan. 8 weeks would be better. Is there a specific reason for the scan? I had a private dating scan at 12 weeks when I found out I was pregnant, but then NHS wouldn't scan me again until I was 21 weeks because of it.

I’ve had abdominal scans twice at 7 weeks and seen the baby and heartbeat, it is possible.

Transvaginal scans in early pregnancy are generally gentle (not like ovarian scans which can really feel like they're rummaging about in there!). At 7 weeks they will need to do internal to actually see things.
