How do I know what baby movements are normal?

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant and recently had a midwife appointment. The midwife asked about movements and I said yes moves regularly but isn't a distinct pattern apart from at about 10pm in the evening. She then said oh well you should go get checked if you are worried. I then tried to ask what sort of pattern should it be and then she said oh it depends on the baby and some babies have no pattern.

To give an example, yesterday it kicked so much in the day I was actually surprised and was wondering if it was OK. Today it isn't kicking that much or in the same way, but is rolling and may well be in a different position. Other midwives have also said it will feel different depending on the position.

How do I track this? I worry about this every day because it is different every day and no one has been able to give me a straight answer or rule about how to track movements properly.

So if they are usually active around 10pm base it off that. Also they sleep for about 45 mins in the womb and then usually have a little shuffle, so if it's been a few hours and you haven't felt them (but also haven't been charging around as you'll miss little movements when you're busy) try to sit and check for movements.

Thank you - I just find it hard as every day seems different but good to know I can base it off its 'main' activity.

They tell you all the time to get checked if you are worried, a mothers instict is really good for this kind of thing so it's worth trusting it. If at any point you think I haven't felt them recently or they seem a bit quiet today, sit down, get a drink and a snack and pay attention to the movements. It's easy to have a busy day and not feel as much but don't let time pass if you worry about their movements ever.

With my DS we had a really busy day and I realised later on that I hadn't felt him at all that day. Sat down, had a cold drink and sugary snack which would normally get him moving but still no movements. Went in to get checked, luckily he was absolutely fine and was probably just in a different position but we have to get checked just incase they aren't ok.

I'm 33 weeks and wouldn't say my baby has a pattern, she just moves a lot. So if she had a quiet day I'd consider that not her usual pattern.
