Is laxido safe in pregnancy (for third trimester constipation)? If so do / did you find that it resolves the issue?

I'm not a medical professional but I would think it would be okay, it's an osmotic laxative (like Lactulose which is fine in pregnancy), which doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream, so doesn't reach the baby. I use Lactulose and drink prune juice daily, I also take Senokot if constipated for several days. When I mentioned this to the doctor, they were fine with it

Yes I’ve been prescribed it. Found it took a while to work but after a couple weeks has resolved the constipation

Yes it’s fine in pregnancy. You can adjust the number of sachets you have until it works. Definitely don’t leave constipation untreated in pregnancy. I wish I knew then what I know now in that it really increases your risk of prolapse and pelvic floor issues, especially if you have to strain a lot.

EllaSW · 04/10/2026 23:27

@VanillaImpulsethat’s interesting. I haven’t heard that. I think mine is actually caused by pelvic floor issues in the first place.

@Panda34@ButterscotchBabethanks for your replies. I’m nervous about taking any medications in pregnancy but the consensus does seem to be that it’s pregnancy-safe.

I have a bowel issue that causes chronic constipation and also had to have a cervical stitch in my last pregnancy, and you really can’t be constipated with one.

I lived on two sachets of Laxido a day, prescribed by the doctor.

EllaSW · 06/10/2026 08:02

@KittyFantastica I’m pleased to hear that it has helped. Do you mind me asking what the bowel issue is?

@EllaSWI have an elongated large intestine. It’s significantly longer than the average persons and therefore has to twist and turn more in my abdominal cavity leaving less room for everything else.
