Has anyone out there been diagnosed with hip bursitis (i.e. housemaids knee of the hip )? Not that I have (yet) but I'm not convinced that what I have is sciatica, SPD or anything else that is commonly recognised in pregnancy. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and these are my symtoms:
- earlier in the pregnancy I had stiff legs and what felt like shooting sciatic pain when I got up to go to the loo at night. Seemed to be better in 2nd trimester.
- last 10 days painful and feels like I am paralysed between hip and knee (mainly on left side which is the side I am sleeping on) when I get up in the night or turn over in bed - essentially have to pull myself up in bed with upper body and sit on the side of the bed until I have enough feeling to stand up.
- walking (say for 30 minutes) causes left hip pain which lasts for an hour or so after I stop walking. Gets to the point where I can barely walk.
- comfortable swimming front crawl but not breast stroke but pain then worse when I get out of the pool.
- sometimes a burning sensation in my left hip when I sit down.
When I look all this up in books/internet it sounds a bit like sciatica (common in pregnancy) but a bit like bursitis too (which doesn't seem to get directly associated with pregnancy). I'm seeing the obstetric physio on Thursday but was interested to hear about other people's experiences and things that helped...not sure I can bear this for another 7 weeks (but feel a bit sheepish as I know people with SPD have to put up with much worse for longer ...
