Gestational diabetes - due date?

Hi all,

Found out I have gestational diabetes so trying to get my head around that. I'm 26 weeks at the minute and my two previous children were late (1st induced, 2nd was 3 days late - spontaneous labour). This is just a wondering as my due date is the 23rd December and I've heard babies can come early with GD. If you weren't induced but had GD, when did baby come? I'm intrigued as to whether this baby might come early (just don't want it to come 2 days late!)

Thank you ☺️

My second was planned c section due to lots of reasons, so cant help. Do look up the gestational diabetes website, i found it so much easier to understand. Pairing food took abit to get head round. Crisps would spike me, but crisps with sour cream dip fine, hot choc no, but hot choc with M&s cream from a can with hot choc, fine!

I had GD, wasn’t induced and she came on her due date

@Panda34 were you on medication or was it diet controlled? That's not the answer I was looking for, was hoping for a few days earlier 🤣🤣

My daughter was born 3 days after her due date, spontaneous labour started 2 days after my due date. Pregnancy was controlled with metformin. This time around I am on insulin (due to preference), I’m currently 37w +3, but planning for ELCS at 39+4.

I’ve also got GD for the first time (baby number 5) and taking metformin. They won’t let me carry over 40 weeks, assuming they don’t have to induce earlier but also nervous about induction as never had before and all my babies have been over 40W.

GenevieveTrompke · 18/09/2026 08:56

Just to add, with my first one I didn’t want an induction and was scheduled for a c-section for 40w+4, but ended up giving birth spontaneously one day before ☺️ In my trust the recommendation for pregnant people with GD is not to go over 40w+6, so technically they could schedule induction or ELCS after 40w. But it also depends on individual circumstances, e.g how big the baby is measuring and how well GD is controlled. Btw I’m based in Scotland.

I was diet controlled. Booked in for induction at 41 weeks but went into spontaneous labour the night before the induction

Thanks all for your replies. Will just be crossing my fingers and toes that baby comes on it's own before Christmas! X
