Pregnancy bladder issues

Hi,

I’m 27 weeks pregnant with my first and having a bad time with my bladder :( I’ve got very bad reflux and wake up vomiting and unfortunately each time I heave I pee. Last night I completely soaked myself even wearing a super heavy night sanitary towel. I was literally in a puddle. I was prepared for sneezing and losing a few drops but not this. I’ve panic booked the pelvic floor physio but just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and did you manage to get back to normal after baby arrived? I’m off to buy some big incontinence pants today to wear to bed.

Hi there. Im 21 weeks into my third pregnancy and have been having the same issues you have! I have had nausea, worse in the first trimester, and haven't been able to vomit without wetting myself 😭

Its never happened in either of my first two pregnancies or after giving birth, and Ive never had pelvic floor issues after two VBs, so a bit concerning. I was wondering if its maybe hormones from the pregnancy!?

I would be interested to see what the physio says so do keep us updated and good luck.

Just a practical tip, sit on the toilet and puke into a bowl or bucket. The cleanup is way easier otherwise you've got to clean yourself, your clothes and the floor.

I never had the problem in my first pregnancy but each one after that I can't puke without some leakage :( definitely need to work on my pelvic floor as it's been a lot weaker since having a baby.

I’m sorry it is happening to you too, it is awful isn’t it?! I’ve never had any incontinence at all before - could bounce all day on a trampoline before pregnancy so this has come as a shock.

I was also wondering (hoping) that pregnancy hormones are playing a big part and it won’t be so bad after birth.

will update you on what the physio says.

Went to see the physio - she assessed my pelvic floor and said it was strong.

She advised getting on top of the reflux as my bladder is fine if I’m not violently vomiting. Also said pregnancy and vomiting is a lot of force for the pelvic floor to handle and the fact that I’m wetting myself isn’t an indicator of what will happen post partum. Feeling a lot better about things!

Hi OP, thats so good to hear! You must be so relieved. Did she tell you to do any pelvic floor exercises or is she confident you’ll go back to normal after baby is born?

She said keep up with the pelvic floor exercises and general strength training at the gym and hopefully all will be fine.
i have started on a higher dose of omeprazole and it seems to have calmed things down, haven’t vomited or wet myself so far this week :)
