Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
I had pregnancy-induced high blood pressure with both of my pregnancies. With my first, it started at 34 weeks, and this time it started at 36 weeks. I was put on aspirin this pregnancy, which kept my readings good until around 36 weeks, when my blood pressure started increasing again. I was eventually induced at 39 weeks.
I’m now 13 weeks postpartum. My systolic (top number) is generally normal, around 120, but my diastolic (bottom number) is consistently around 89–93.
With my first pregnancy, I was taken off my blood pressure medication at 6 weeks postpartum. This time, I stayed on medication until a week ago, when my GP took me off it. Obviously, I’m a little concerned that my bottom number is still borderline/high.
I saw my GP today and she wasn’t overly concerned at the moment. She doesn’t want to restart medication just yet and has advised me to monitor it, go on holiday in two weeks, and then come back afterwards so we can reassess.
I was just wondering if any other mums have experienced similar — especially having a normal top number but a consistently high/borderline bottom number several months after having gestational hypertension?
I’m also low in iron. My ferritin was 8 and has increased to 18 after two weeks of prescribed iron supplements, so it is improving but is still quite low. I’ve read that there can potentially be a link between low iron/ferritin and blood pressure, so I wondered if anyone has experienced this too.
Would really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences. ❤️
