my friend is having it tomorrow at 9am and has been told to fast from 9pm tonight, do you know if she can drink plain water after 9am, the leaflet does not make it clear...

They didn't tell me to fast, just to drink precisely the right amount of lucozade. Sounds weird, avoiding water can't be good for you, and wouldn't affect your blood sugar anyway.

she needs to fast for 12 hours. sips of water is fine.

It depends on the test really. We do a fasting glucose tolerance which requires the woman to fast from midnight the night before the test. The first blood sample is taken by the midwife and then the woman has to drink a glucose drink. Then 2hrs later a second blood sample is taken and the woman can then eat and drink. During fasting we ask women not to eat, chew chewing gum or smoke cigarettes although plain water is okay in small volumes.
