Membrane sweep did it work ?

Just that really did it work? And what point in your pregnancy did you have one ? Were you overdue or did you have one before 40 weeks pregnant

I had one on the Tuesday and my labour started on the Thursday morning around 6am, I delivered at 330pm that same day. Gas and air only and no intervention. Second baby. Second vaginal birth. Baby was born 5 days before due date. Sweep was a week before due date.

First baby 3 years earlier was a very long (3days plus) labour with syntocin drip and forceps in theatre.

Nope. They just having me a day or two of contractions that fizzled out. I went to 40+10 with first one. Despite having 3 lots of sweeps.
With second one I refused sweeps and went til 40+14 and had an induction.
3rd didn't have sweeps but was induced at 38 weeks..

I had one at 39 weeks and my son was born within 48 hours, 8 hour labour gas &air. I did walk quite a bit after the sweep to try “help” things along.

Mine 'worked' but I was so overdue I must have been pretty ready for labour anyway

Dd1 sweep at 41+5 and she was born 41+6

Dd2 sweep at 41+4 and she was born 41+5

Friend has just had two sweep appts but cervix was closed both times, 39 wks and 40 weeks, so nada.

2…39 and 40 weeks. Did nothing…went 10 days over then had c-section.

40 weeks, yes I went into labour 12 hours later and delivered in another 4

DS2 was born within 2.5 hours of my first sweep at 40+1 😅

Yes. Was 7 days over and booked for a CS a couple of days later ("it has to be before the bank holiday weekend"🙄), and I REALLY didn't want one. I had had an emergency CS for my second pregnancy so wasn't a candidate for induction, unfortunately.

Sweep worked like a charm, labour kicked off within 24 hours. Uncomfortable, though....

37+4 - sweep at 9am, first contraction and water break at 11.45am, baby arrived at 4pm same day.

38+2 - sweep Saturday, labor started Sunday Eve, baby arrived 6am Monday.

As far as I’m aware, sweeps only work if the cervix is favorable and it’s probably helpful if you’re already in early labor. With firstborn I was already dilating but didn’t know.

42+4, had two, didn't work. Daughter turned up 3 days after I was induced!

No for me. Although the doctor who gave me the sweep really shouldn’t have done it as it could have caused an umbilical prolapse, so just run that by the person doing it first! Both my children were head down into my hip so we’re never coming out the traditional exit

Worked for me with dd1, had a sweep at 39+6, went into labour that night and she finally arrived a day or two later.

With dd2 I had to be induced at 37+3 but the midwife did what she called a "strong sweep" (very painful!) and I couldn't stand up straight after it. 1hr 10 mins later, dd2 arrived!

I had one at 41 weeks and labour started the next day, after a long walk. I’d suggest waiting til close to 41 weeks as more likely to work if you’re closer to labour anyway. Also they can usually only give you 2-3 so you don’t want to ‘waste’ too early! It’s normal to give birth up to 42 weeks, no such thing as ‘overdue’

DD1 sweep at 37 weeks was 1-2cm, midwife was sure I'd have her within a few days, had another sweep at 40 weeks, was 2-3cm could stretch to 4cm, she arrived 5 days after . DD2 I had 3 sweeps i think from 38 weeks, ended up being induced at 39 weeks

I had 4 sweeps in total. The last 2 were minutes apart as I let a final exam student have a go to tick off her last item on her experience list. My waters broke later that day - so having 2 in the same day seemed to do the trick!

Ouch 2 in the same day! Least it did the job though haha

Well I had my sweep today! Was already 3cm now 4cm so fingers crossed 🤞🏻
