How to reduce early pregnancy anxiety

Im 6 weeks pregnant and I have such high anxiety about something going wrong or the pregnancy not progressing. It is starting to make me really sad because there’s no way for me to find out if everything is okay since it’s so early on.

has anyone else felt like this and was there anything you did to feel calmer during the first trimester?

Just to say I definitely felt like this, I was a mess my entire pregnancy tbh. In the first trimester I spent a small fortune on private scans...they would help in the moment but the doubt and worry would soon creep back in. I am not sure I really have any helpful advice;.i.just wanted you to know you are definitely not alone. At the end of each day i would tell myself that I am one day closer to the chance of miscarriage being less (there is a miscarriage calculaltor somewhere online that tells you the percentage risk of miscarriage each day based on your age and gestation) but that was the only thing that even marginally helped. Sending you lots of love, it can be such a stressful time

eat good, sleep plenty - look after yourself and you should find peace in knowing your doing the best you can to look after your child (or children 😉) good luck & enjoy ! X

Get your iron levels checked and ensure ferritin is more than 100 and transferrin saturation is more than 20%.

Have you had a miscarriage before then? There’s nothing you can do or not do. Keep occupied with other things. I would avoid the private scans at least until youre 8/9 weeks as they are much more definitive then. But remember scans dont change anything

BettyBettyBoop · 06/09/2026 09:22

You could book a private scan, but as others have said, these can sometimes add to anxiety as you know everything is ok within that moment, but then the anxiety can creep back in. I had a private scan at 7 weeks and 11 weeks as my "12 week" scan isn't till quite late in my 13th week, so I wanted to check everything was ok, but the anxiety has crept back in in my 12th week

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, really appreciate it! I know regardless of information there’s nothing I can do to change what will happen but it’s just nice to know I’m not the only one who feels this anxiety. Thank you for taking the time to comment ❤️

I’m in the same boat. I had a Frozen Embryro Transfer in mid August and a positive test last week. My clinic is going to scan me this week (6 week scan). I had a 21 week loss last year (this week last year actually) so I am TERRIFIED. I am 42. I have no idea how I’m going to cope if I miscarry this baby. We have no further embryos and we won’t be doing any further treatment if this pregnancy doesn’t work out.

If anyone has any advice I would really welcome it as I’m driving myself mad.

Im the same only 5 weeks pregnant so im booking an early scan for around 7-8 weeks and hoping it helps

SparklyGreenTiger · 07/09/2026 19:50

Sadly I started bleeding heavily this evening so in my local hospital. Looks like the dream is over for us. We’re very lucky to have one loving child but life feels very unfair right now.

Might be worth booking a private scan to know either way if your constantly worrying? My last pregnancy felt very different to previous ones (usually suffer from hyperemesis) and yet I felt fine despite positive pregnancy tests, I booked a private scan around 6 weeks as in the end I couldn’t stand the not knowing, turned out the baby had stopped growing and no heartbeat. I didn’t actually get any bleeding or pain until 8 weeks and pass baby until 9 weeks which obviously would have been an awful shock if it had just come out the blue. My previous pregnancy to that I suffered severe cramping and spotting around 4-5 weeks but waited as thought will find out soon enough if miscarrying but everything turned out fine

Is there still a chance you could get pregnant naturally?

firsttimepregnanthelp · 07/09/2026 21:22

@SparklyGreenTigeri am so sorry to hear this. Life definitely is unfair. You certainly are lucky to have one loving child but it doesn't take away the grief of not being able to have another. Sending you lots of love x

A very, very small chance. There’s issues on both sides and age is against both of us now.

Never lose hope, I had my DD naturally just before I was 45
