Hi everyone.

My daughter has not long turned 1 and we would like to try for number 2. I haven’t had my cycle back since birth and it’s been about 3 months since we stopped using protection and nothing is happening. She still breastfeeds quite a bit, but does go long stretches a few days a week as I work part time. She does still feed 2x a night and maybe around 4x a day on my days off, usually
when napping.

I really don’t want to wean her but I am starting to think this is my only option to get my fertility back ☹️ any advice?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My periods came back at around 12 months each time, I had just dropped one of the daytime feeds which possibly was the trigger, but I was still feeding a lot including a couple of night feeds.
I conceived easily, at 42, and breastfed through that pregnancy, so as long as you are ovulating, which should happen fairly soon , then it shouldn’t make any difference to conception. Obviously you could conceive in that one cycle before your first period but if they aren’t back yet it’s unlikely. Around a year is normal for your cycle to return, can be less, can be longer, but it’s usually roughly 12 months or so.

You don't need to wean her. Many women have been caught out by the bubbameister of 'you can't get pregnant whilst breastfeeding'. You can ovulate and not necessarily have a period.

Thank you for sharing your experience, that gives me some hope 🤗 I’d love to be able to continue feeding through a second pregnancy

Thanks for your reply. I definitely thought it was an old wives tale too, but in my case it seems to have worked so far unfortunately 😅🥲
