Extreme crushing fatigue

I know this can be normal for the first trimester but this feels debilitating. I am so so exhausted and wanting to fall asleep by 12pm . Obviously I can't! I work some days and then have 2 children to care for (4 and 18 months). All day it doesn't lift, the tiredness fog.
when did this pass? I honestly can't remember it being this bad in my other two pregnancies .... I am nauseous too but that's more manageable than the tiredness. I am about 10 weeks.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How are your iron levels?

How are your iron levels?

I had my booking bloods and they said they don't routinely check. Iron levels but they check haemaglobin level and that was normal

Third pregnancy was a bitch. Felt like the walking dead. Got better near the end. Can’t see how anyone can have more than 3 pregnancies. It’s contraception in itself

Tell me about it! It's an unplanned pregnancy and only ever wanted 2. But here we are. Walking dead is an accurate description

We dithered between 2-3 and she was unplanned in the end but it’s been SO worth it. Like a little bit of heaven. Having 3 isn’t half as bad as the pregnancy I promise

I’d ask for a ferritin check, I was extremely fatigued, breathless and horrific restless legs. Turns out I had next to no iron. 2 iron infusions later and I’m feel much better. My midwife was happy to check ferritin with me.

Hey OP as a previous poster just said get your ferritin levels checked and maybe vitamin D and b12. Deficiencies in all three can make you tired and pregnancy can impact them all. Ferritin is your actual iron store which makes red blood cells. Your haemoglobin and red blood cell level can remain in range for some time even if your iron stores are low before they start to drop. I don't know why a ferritin check isn't standard for booking bloods but it ought to be! It's better to catch an iron deficiency before it turns into full blown iron deficiency anaemia. As you get more pregnant your blood will dilute more so any low iron issues will only get worse not better. I currently have low iron am 22 weeks pregnant and my ferritin level has been dropping since I conceived, waiting for an iron infusion. I hope your levels are fine and hopefully the fatigue should subside after the first trimester. I remember with my first pregnancy I wanted to sleep all day until about 14 weeks. Take care and good luck x

Thanks , I spoke to midwife and she said to ask the dr to check ferritin. I did have low vitamin D in April confirmed by blood test so have been taking a supplement since then but I've also had A LOT of sun this summer 😆 so vitamin D should be ok .

As well as iron think about getting your thyroid checked by your GP asap. Pregnancy can tip it into underactive if you were on the cusp before and levels do vary generally. You want your TSH to be below 2 for optimal levels in pregnancy. I’m 15 weeks now and my dosage was increased in the first trimester, pregnancy tiredness hasn’t touched the sides of thyroid fatigue xx
