Coming off Xonvea- advice needed

I have been on xonvea since early first trimester for HG, am in the third now and down to one tablet every other night, if I stop taking this for a few days (2-3) I start vomiting again. Is this xonvea withdrawal sickness or likely to be HG rearing its head again? Should I try to push through it to hope it improves or just resolve to take the medication up to birth?

I want to come off it as I’m taking a lot of tablets and trying to reduce unnecessary medication if I can. Anyone had any experience with coming of xonvea?

I found it extremely difficult to come off and I was only on it for 3 weeks. I had severe HG and took it alongside ondansetron and metoclopramide (only had 5 days of this one)

I developed a rare side effect from xonvea (toxic psychosis) I had to wean off it by taking a quarter less of each tablet and it took about 2.5 weeks to get off fully. The side effect was awful but stopping abruptly made it absolutely impossible for me to sleep at all and I got really unwell. For a lot of people it’s a miracle drug for me it ruined everything as I had to have a termination as couldn’t control the HG and the psychosis was horrific .

Wean off extremely slowly and hopefully you will be ok

I ran out at one point and so had a very abrupt stop. The insomnia was awful and I was super congested. My sickness did unfortunately come back so I had to go back on it, but will do a gradual reduction down. How many weeks are you? I’m planning on starting to reduce at about 36 weeks and just putting up with the puking as I won’t be working at that point.

That sounds horrendous, am so sorry you went through this. Did the drug itself give you the psychosis side effect or was it coming off it which did? I’m down to taking one every two days now so wondering if that’s enough or if I should try to wean off further.

It was the doxylamine apparently it is such a rare side effect and I was just really unlucky. I had started on a high dose too as was really sick but they had advised me to. Within 48 hours of the first tablet I was having such worrying thoughts and felt dreadful.

I am also in my third tri. I attempted to wean off it but failed. The sickness came back strongly.

I’ve weaned down to 2 at bedtime and that’s ok for me now.

Im 28 weeks, I just really thought the sickness would be gone by now :-(

I didn’t think taking one every other day would be doing much but it must be! Sorry that you are still feeling poorly too

I am 21 weeks, I ran out of Xonvea a couple of weeks ago and after 48 hours was vomiting again. I am just continuing to take it - I assume the sickness is just not done with me yet. I didn't have Xonvea in my first pregnancy and was vomiting until 32 weeks so I am going to give myself a bit longer before tapering it off slowly.

I just stayed on it. I cant remember. I think it was a half or one every other day. Sorry. The subsequent babe has deleted my memory lol 😂

And weird because I was actually talking about this today because we were talking about B vitamins.

Xonvea is an antihistamine (the one mentioned upthread) and B6 combined in one pill.

You could ask your doc if having a B6 every other day (on your off day) would help. Then wean down to a half and a quarter of the Xonvea.

Even if it’s just psychological it might help.

I’m on cyclizine and stopped it abruptly as I felt better. Mistake as I was sick again 3 days later! After chatting with my doctor she recommend reducing by one tablet each week and see how I feel.
