Hi all

Im currently 17 weeks pregnant and I was just cleaning out hamster who seems to be not themselves so worried they might be ill, taking them to vet tommorow or Monday.
when I finished I forgot to wash hands and started to eat food and now panicking baby is going to get ill heard baby can catch a virus that will cause defects or lose the baby.
will I be okay? Absolute panic.

thanks

In all likelihood you'll be fine OP. Your body will be used to to the hamster germs so unlikely you'll suddenly get sick.

Don't stress about it but just keep an eye on how you are feeling.

The virus you might be thinking of is from cat litter trays and is because cats go outside and catch prey to eat - hamsters don’t, they can only get germs from things that are carried to them directly by contact or in their food, bedding etc, so anything they have you are already likely to be exposed to anyway (eg: no reason to panic!). They are rodents like rats etc, but they don’t have dangerous germs just by being rodents, wild rats only carry disease because of their lifestyle too.
