Unborn baby making clicking noise - anyone else ever had this?

When I was pregnant with DS1, towards the end I occasionally heard this odd click noise - once it was so loud that SIL heard it too.

I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I've recently been hearing (if that's the right word for it, as it's more a feeling at the back of my neck - I know it sounds totally mental) the odd kind of fizzy bubbly sound, and I've just heard the first faint click like DS did.

Has anyone else ever had this? I asked the midwife last time and she'd never heard of it. DS is fine and normal and hasn't "clicked" since being born - but what are they doing in there to make such an odd noise?

It crops up frequently on here, so it's not uncommon. There have been several theories on what's causing it, but it certainly isn't a problem.

Don't know what it might be - but my MIL & FIL told me that DH's younger brother clicked in the womb - loud enough for FIL to hear it!

I thought they were pulling my leg, but maybe not.......

I had this with dd, thought she was going to be born with clicky joints or something, it was really loud. Asked midwife and she just looked at me blankly.

I also had this with dd2. Really odd - felt like she was folding and unfolding her legs to me. I was also met with odd looks from midwife .

Glad to hear other people get it too, haven't met anyone in RL yet who has had this!

Yes! I had it with ds. It was like he was loudly cracking his knuckles in there. Someone told me it was bubbles bursting in the amniotic fuid, but I've no idea where they got that from or whether it is true.

Me too x3 no idea why and I gave up asking people's opinion in RL, because no-one I know has experienced it.

I can't see how you would get bubbles in the amniotic fluid, surely theres no air in there? . It did sound like that pop you get when you stand up sometimes, and it was always accompanying a feck off kick.

How strange.

Maybe these babies are humming jazz and clicking their fingers, daddio.

I had this with DS. Still no idea what it was but had a totally healthy pregnancy and birth, so as PortandLemon says, it can't be a problem.

I got freaked out with my DS because I felt this sort of knocking in my tummy and it felt like there was someone knocking to come out! I got it a lot and my midwife suggested it was hiccups when I mentioned it to her (and she felt it once during a check up). I don't know if this is right but he has always hiccupped quite a lot as a baby so maybe it was!

I had this, and i think, judging by the movement and position of the noise, DS was removing his thumb from his mouth with a definite "crack/plop" kinds sound.
It's really startling, though, innit?
