Husband says I am very large for 21 weeks- worried it will be a big baby!

Currently 21 weeks pregnant with my 4th and my husband is constantly saying I look big and how much bigger I am than with the others. He works with 7 other women who are due around the same time, and he says they are all a lot smaller than me!

I'm worried I will have a big baby. I'm not that big, normally weigh 8 stone 2 pounds but now almost weigh 9stone (have I put too much weight on already?). My last baby was 7 pounds 8 and I tore my clitoris and urethra it was very painful, I'm worried I will tear even worse if I have a big baby! Has anyone had a large bump but had an average sized baby?

@oustedbymymate No he's not. I have thought about asking for a c section but I'm not sure I have a good enough reason. I'm also worried my milk won't come in properly.

Why would you think your milk won’t come in because of a C-section?!That makes no sense.

I had 2 sections and fed both my baby’s for over 12 months, both times.

6 other women, exactly 21 weeks, but all smaller 🙄
My arse.

Due around the same time. Not necessarily bang on 21 weeks. 🙄

Having lived somewhere where almost all of us had babies within weeks of each other, in a small village, I have no issue believing this.

If you don't think it is real, scroll on by or report it.

On the assumption he isn’t normally an ass, you need to tell him how his comments are impacting you.
As to the c-section - my first birth was upsetting; failed ventose then forceps with only local pain relief. My second was a planned c section and was such a postivie experience and estanlished breast feeling with no problems at all. Cant recommend it enough.
Good luck - I think you are looking great

Not exactly 21 weeks but we're all due within two weeks of eachother so you get my druft. He said they're smaller, I've not personally seen them.

I've heard it from other people who said they couldn't breastfeed for that reason. Breastfeeding is the only thing I've been good at lol so it would break my heart if I couldn't do it. Thanks for letting me know that though its reassuring.

How tall are you in comparison to them? That'll make a difference. I was bigger than you with DS at that stage and he was only 8lb 7.
Don't give birth laid on your back of you're worried about tearing, that'll help.

Honestly you’ve had 3 already, you have access to the internet, how can you be so utterly uninformed about to much of pregnancy and birth?

user293948849167 · 06/08/2026 18:33

Unless your DH is a trained midwife or obstetrician tell him to F off.
You look fine to me, most women are a little larger earlier with later pregnancies

She's not she just wants people to tell her she's skinny and has a tiny bump. That's the whole purpose of this post.

Do not accuse me or tell me what to do.
How about you read all my posts before you start with your criticisms?
I was actually criticising her husband.
But of course you never read my posts, just wrongly leapt on that one 🙄.

Thanks for all your comments. For those calling my husband thoughtless, I don't think he means to be nasty I genuinely think he means it or he wouldn't say it.

I know its sounds unbelievable that so many women are pregnant whom he works with, but it's definitely true. If I told you where he worked it would make more sense but that would be outing. It's reassuring that some of younhad big babies and didn't tear.

Stop defending him. My point is that he originally told you that they were due at the same time, and are all smaller than you.
Firstly - it's completely irrelevant, and secondly, why is he saying this to you?
It's upset you and that's not right.

How utterly rude! I am by no means skinny. And as I said before, I am bigger than I was with the other three and even my husband has obviously noticed it and I am terrified I will tear again (I needed stitches and a catheter), so how dare you tell me I'm doing this for attention.

Because I've been told my both my sister who had c sections, and a midwife that it can delay your milk coming in (this is true btw I've just looked it up). Why do you have to be so nasty?

Edited

Please do as I advised - speak to your midwife.
You understandably have anxiety about tearing and having a big baby. Not helped by your DH's stupid remarks.
Be assured by other women's experiences on here.
Oh and ignore rude posters, there seems to be a few of them on here tonight 🙄!

Let me reassure you; it's not true.
I've had C-sections and breast fed, no problems.

Thank you for your kind reply. I dont see a midwife until another 7 weeks, where I assume she will measure the fundal height which will give me more of an idea. I will mention my fears to her though about tearing badly again.

This photo is me at 19 weeks!
This was with my second baby, and she was 7lb 10oz so not huge but I have a bigger frame. My first was 8lbs 12oz so quite a bit bigger.

I wouldn't take what your husband is saying seriously. You will be told further on if they think baby is measuring big.

Wow did you have a lot of fluid? I was about that big at 36 weeks!!

I don't think you should wait 7 weeks, because you're already anxious. Could you speak to a nurse practitioner at your GP Practice?
I think you're just going to feel a bit stressed until someone professional can check you out and reassure you.

mochimoons · 06/08/2026 18:57

I've heard it's pretty common to be bigger with each pregnancy because your muscles are more used to stretching out. I've never heard of the size of the bump relating to the size of the baby.

caringcarer · 06/08/2026 19:03

I was enormous having my first DC. I was 7 days overdue and got started off on a drip. Midwife broke my waters and said I had a lot more water than most women. Normal size baby of 7 lb 10 oz. When I was pregnant with my second a very small bump. I still had a normal size baby 6 lb and 12 Oz. You look normal size for me especially as your 4th.

My midwife did wonder if I had polyhydramnios as my bump did measure big but I didn't! I did have more than average but not enough to be classed as too much. I was huge by the time I went into labour at 41+2 and was fully expecting have a massive baby but she was very average!

Leave this man.

Any man who works with women and compares his wife to them is just useless imo.

Leave the father of her 4 children because he said her bump is bigger? 😂 fuckin drama queens
