Hello Ladies,

I am in my first trimester and having severe constipation. Did anyone experienced this and how do you manage?

I found eating lots of dried apricots helped a bit. Anything you can do to get as much fiber as possible. Also started doing overnight oats with chia seeds, when they are properly soaked they can also help

Oh lord - yes I have had this in all my pregnancies.

I eat fruit and fibre with an extra scoop of flax for breakfast. Try and up your fibre intake in general.

Lots and lots of water.

If worst comes to worst a glug of lactulose each morning to keep things moving

Apricots worked for me last time!

If you're taking a prenatal vitamin check if it has iron in it. I stopped mine as the iron made me so bloated and so constipated. If you don't have low iron I personally wouldn't take it. I just switched to taking folic acid and vitamin d as per the nhs guidelines and a pregnancy safe fish oil as I don't eat oily fish.

Laxative from the GP was only thing that helped me. Swapped between one a day to one every other day. Diet changes didn't help me at all unfortunately

Oh yes! It’s a joy isn’t it! Lots of fruit helped

I had this with my girl, and the opposite with my boy! I tried to help things along with my diet. Don’t strain!
