Am I pregnant? Confused by positive test and doctors test negative

Hi all, I was hoping for some advice as this time has been really unsettling. I got a super faint line on pregnancy test 3 days ago now but at the time I thought it was a indent line so I didn’t pay focus to it, I think did two more yesterday (one first response and it came back with darker line but still quite faint) and one ultra early clear blue digital which said pregnant. Unfortunately I had quite bad one sided pain in my right lower abdomen all day yesterday and some light spotting throughout. I have suspected endometriosis so I decided to call 111 as I was worried. They said I had to go immediately to A and E which I did. Unfortunately my experience wasn’t so nice there, they did some urine tests (initial one said not pregnant) and then took some bloods. After waiting 8 hours in a and e they came and told me you likely aren’t pregnant it’s not possible to be pregnant after coming off pill a month ago and my hcg levels were 5 (so the absolute highest mark and borderline so essentially not pregnant but on the border). She basically said I wasn’t and maybe I just took a test at the time the egg was going down tubes and caused a positive. I have since done another digital and it still says positive. I just feel quite confused and left with no more certainty than I had when I went in…

If you’re using an early test, and they are using standard, not v sensitive tests, maybe it was just too early to show up, and the hCG of 5 is just because it’s so early? If AF doesn’t arrive, then retest and see if it’s a stronger line?

Sorry you’re stuck in limbo Flowers

Thank you ☺️ yeh they said their second bunch of tests 8 hours later had two very faint lines but they said that wasn’t showing pregnancy either which confused me as I thought any kinda of line was positive?

A blood HCG of 5 is borderline, as you said, and urine results are likely to be lower which means whilst you could have triggered a positive with an ultra-low detection test of 10iu a day or two ago, but a non-viable pregnancy means levels will drop and so blood HCG could be lower/normal.

I personally think these ultra low, very early detection tests are a menace and cause nothing but heartache for so many women.

Wait for a late or missed period and test with a standard 25iu detection test and you're likely to get a much more realistic result. Good luck!

Thank you yes I will do that. It’s just odd though as I tested again today on a digital and still said positive so I would have assumed it would have dropped off

@misty004 ok has the pain and spotting stopped?

If so wait a few days and test again. If not make a GP appt and they might do another blood HCG test to see if the levels are rising.

Spotting is occasional and pain has reduced but still there. Yes I will try and do that thanks if doctors allow they said no follow up needed but can try
