*trigger* bleed during pregnancy

Last Wednesday at 12w5d I awoke in the early hours to a small gush of what I can only assume were my waters and bleeding. I was away at the time but still within the uk and called 111 and they referred me to a local hospital to get checked. They were amazing and got me in for an ultrasound same day, which fetal heartbeat was seen and baby has grown. Upon a review this is all they focused on didn’t say if they knew of the cause of the bleeding or anything else. I have to ask them to provide me a letter to provide to my local services if the issue doesn’t resolve or occurs again.

around Saturday the bleeding was much lighter and brown but has continued to persist until now. My local team have referred me to be checked again Friday but has anyone had similar?

I have experienced bleeding and continued to have a healthy pregnancy.

It's a scary and worrying time and sadly it wouldn't be feasible to scan each day so it drives you mad in-between. I hope all goes well for you tomorrow and perhaps prepare some questions you'd like to ask as your mind often goes blank at the time.

@Iknowthatfeelingthat’s just what happened last time, my mind went blank just happy that baby was doing ok.

I guess this time I’m less worried something is wrong with the baby per se although it’s in the back of my mind. But more if there’s something wrong me or if the bleed hasn’t resolved is there a bigger issue with my carrying. I had partial placenta previa with my first two, so there’s a chance I could have previa again now and it’s causing problems this time with having two to keep up with. But they won’t check it at this stage.

@ForeverOverthinking3 you do lose the questions once your mind is put at rest.

It is too early to check for placenta previa, but it could be a synchronic haematoma which I know a couple of people who bled and this was the reason.

Mine was from constipation the first time at 8 weeks and the second time was about 18 weeks and didn't find a reason for it.

Make sure they put a care plan in place to give you regular checks if the bleeding continues though.

I had similar bleeds at 14 weeks, got out of bed and blood ran down my legs. Absolutely horrifying! Went to the Maternity Assessment Unit who did a scan and baby was fine and active, also checked my cervix was closed (to show i wasn't actively miscarrying). Went home and that evening I had another gush of blood that soaked my trousers, was told to go back in. Got checked again, another scan, another cervix check. The possible causes were a low placenta or a haematoma that couldn't be seen on the scan. I was given progesterone but told that there's nothing else that can be done so I went home. No more gushes and the bleeding tapered off over the next few days and then stopped. At my 20 week scan they discovered I do have a haematoma and have said it'll either reabsorb or could cause another bleed in future.

You could ask to have progesterone, it probably made no difference but it was nice to know i was doing something to try and keep the pregnancy progressing.

I have also had this last weekend (saturday) hospital and midwife (had an appt on Tues anyway) both listened in and were happy with baby's heartbeat. I was told that it cpuld be a Hematoma and also that some women jist have bleeds throughout pregnancy but that I should also always go and get checked out if it happens again. It lasted for 2 days and then stopped and I have had nothing since so I am hoping it was a one off.

Thanks everyone, I had my appointment this morning and it’s vanishing twin syndrome, so my body is just working on getting that taken care of basically.
surprised it wasn’t picked up on my 12 week scan or the one I had when the bleeding started but it explains the prolonged bleeding and midwife was reassuring saying it might go red again and talked about me through roughly what to expect. Just happy to have answers and that it won’t affect the surviving baby

I'm glad you've got some answers and know more what to expect now. So surprising that it wasn't picked up earlier like you said, they obviously only get quite a limited views in the scan.
