I am pregnant, due in November and we have just found out we are expecting another precious boy! We already have a little boy called Vinnie, and I am 80% on the name Stanley for our next! My DH is sold on the name, I am just second guessing as I know no other Stanley’s, and was wondering if there was a reason…? 🤣 what are people’s thoughts?

Stanley cups?

ginnib1 · 21/07/2026 06:58

love it!

Stanley Yelnats.- character from the book Holes.
There’s potential for mockery there.

Flat Stanley.

SwirlingAroundSleep · 21/07/2026 07:08

No! I have a friend who named her son this and I always thought it was awful. Love the name Vinnie, it’s cool, Stanley is not - don’t land one child with an uncool name after such a cool first one.

hididdlyho · 21/07/2026 07:18

I think both Stan and Stanley just sound like an old man, but Vinnie works well for a boy as well as later on in life. Sam sounds close to Stan and Samuel has the same tradition vibe as Stanley and Vincent.

I love it

Lentilcakes · 21/07/2026 08:47

Not for me. A ‘Stan’ is a big fan of something on today’s slang so that’s another reason to say no.

underthehawthorntree · 21/07/2026 09:07

It's a great name. Genuinely ignore all the stupid responses. It's a perfectly normal and nice name. Traditional but fresh.

Rothburypixie · 21/07/2026 09:09

Stanley and Vinnie are great together go for it

MrsMabelThorpe · 21/07/2026 09:13

It's a great name.

TeddyBeans · 21/07/2026 09:14

It's a yes from me! It was on my shortlist for DS ❤️

SuddenLull · 21/07/2026 09:16

There’s a Baby Names board, OP. I don’t like it, personally. It says Stanley Matthews, knobbly knees contests and knotted hankies on heads. But I don’t have to like it. It’s not risible.

Rocknrollstar · 21/07/2026 10:30

I don’t like the name but I know a Stanley and he is tall and good looking.

NeedToKnow101 · 21/07/2026 17:52

Yay!

exhaustedandoverit · 21/07/2026 17:53

Love it!

Hellohah · 21/07/2026 17:57

Stanley is a fabulous name. Not sure if this a positive for some people or not, but my dog is called Stanley :)

notatinydancer · 21/07/2026 18:01

Love it.

MegMortimer · 21/07/2026 18:03

I'm old enough to think of it as an old man's name - my grandad was Stanley. However, I believe the name is enjoying a renaissance now and it's cool again.

I read A LOT I had to look up this 1998 book. I don’t think people will make the leap , especially children when he’s at school in 5 years time.

rivalsbinge · 21/07/2026 18:05

I love it 🥰 and vinnie is lovely as well congratulations

Needmorelego · 21/07/2026 18:13

I met a baby Stanley once (who will be in his teens now).
Little chubby cherub baby with blonde ringlets.
I remember thinking "what an ugly name for such a adorable baby".
Sorry @Mum2b1993 😁
If you like it though it's fine. Regular name. No one is likely to think anything odd about it.

GlosGirl82 · 21/07/2026 18:14

Nay ‘Stanley knife’

Lifelover16 · 21/07/2026 18:16

I love it! Very masculine sounding and traditional, and an unusual choice (in a good way).
