10 week scan ‘normal’ finding but I’m stressed

I had my 10 week NHS scan. I’ve had private ones in previous pregnancies however they never check the anatomy just the basics.

The sonographer said there was a bulge at the cord which they see all the time and it’s a developmental stage where the organs are starting to retract back into the abdomen as the abdomen is still growing but marked it to be check at the 12 week scan.

I am extremely stressed and worried it won’t and having to wait another 2 weeks is killing me. I’ve looked at a previous 10 week scan and there is a blob around the stomach area that looks similar but this was a private scan and the woman never mentioned anything to me.

Has anyone had any experience with this before? The next two weeks are gunna drive me insane!

If the sonographer said they see it all the time, why can’t you trust that? I know it’s stressful but you can’t do anything so sit tight fkr 2 weeks. Dont get a private scan, theyre not qualified

Babies look like gross axolotls when they are first developing. It takes time for things to be in the right place.

Is there a reason for the 10 week scan? It’s not normally offered on the NHS - part of the reason being that everything is more ‘in order’ and easier to check at 12 weeks. This feels like a case of having too much information and no answers, which is again why extra testing isn’t always helpful.

@Peonies12 I know, I lost my last baby at 21 weeks due to issues so nothing will stop me worrying.

@FlorenceAndTheVagine I lost my last baby at 21 weeks so I get extra scans as I’m high risk.

Best wishes and hoping all works out okay. It sounds good they are really on the case and it should give reassurance they see it a lot. Have they also assigned you a consultant who you can ask any questions to?

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your previous loss, that's heartbreaking. The difficulty with extra scans is that while they are reassuring for medical professionals who are detached and happy that it's within the realms of normal, it's very hard when it's your scan and your baby and your wait to hope that they follow the pattern of what commonly happens and everything is fine.
