Pregnancy of unknown location

Hi everyone,
I’m just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar, as I’m feeling really anxious while waiting for my repeat blood test tomorrow.
I’m supposed to be around 6 weeks pregnant, although I have PCOS, so my periods are irregular and I don’t ovulate regularly either, meaning I could be earlier than I think.
I’ve had cramping for the past couple of weeks, along with pain on my right-hand side, and I’ve recently started having light brown and red bleeding.
I had a positive pregnancy test on 5th July, and a Clearblue Digital on 6th July that said 1–2 weeks. I repeated the same test 8 days later and it still said 1–2 weeks, which has made me worry.
I’m under the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, and they’ve currently classified it as a pregnancy of unknown location (PUL). I had blood tests yesterday, and my hCG was 59, which the nurse said was low. I’m due back tomorrow for repeat bloods to see what’s happening.
I also had a scan, but they couldn’t see a gestational sac. The sonographer did say that my womb lining measured 19 mm, which she said was a good sign, but they still couldn’t confirm where the pregnancy is.
To make things more complicated, I also have a UTI and I’m currently taking antibiotics for it, so I’m not sure whether some of the pain could be related to that.
Has anyone had a similar experience with low hCG, a pregnancy of unknown location, or a pregnancy that wasn’t visible on the first scan? Did anyone have a positive outcome, or did it turn out to be something else?
I know everyone’s experience is different, and I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose me.
I think I’m just looking for some experiences while I wait for tomorrow’s blood test. Thank you.

Sorry you’re going through this OP, I know what a worrying time it is. I have also had a PUL and in my case it wasn’t a viable pregnancy, they just were unable to tell that at the time as it was so early. The waiting is dreadful so you have my empathy x
This may not be the case for you so fingers crossed your next bloods show something more positive :)

I had the same, but I'd had a week of bleeding beforehand like a normal period so was fairly certain I'd already miscarried. But there's another thread on here of someone who has a PUL and it was just too early to see anything. I hope your blood test goes ok today. Sorry you're in this position I know it's scary.

Yeh I had the same got to around 10 weeks then I fully miscarried. In my case the sac was there but empty. It is still possible that you could be earlier than you thought. Sorry it’s so hard this process and just a waiting game. Fingers crossed for you

Thank you all! I have an update. Hormone levels have barely risen, the nurse said that my hormone levels are sub optimal and associated with miscarriage or ectopic so I’m going back in 2 days for a scan and more blood draws to figure out whether it’s a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy

I'm so sorry. It's really sad and scary. Hope you're doing OK considering.

Hi, I had similar a few years ago. Mine turned out to be an ectopic.
I had rising HCG for weeks but they couldn’t locate the pregnancy. Eventually they operated and found it was ectopic.
hopefully they will do bloods and scans every few days 🤞🏻

UPDATE:
I had a TV infrasound which again showed no pregnancy as I expected and my womb measurement has decreased to 13mm from 19mm. They did a 3rd blood draw and my hcg level is back at 227, it was 93.6 on Wednesday and 59.5 on Monday so it’s been increasing! Still having pains in my sides so they’re keeping an eye on me for ectopic as everything is lining up but they’re reassessing me in 1 weeks time to see if my hormone levels have increased and doing another TV ultrasound so fingers crossed they find someone so we can have an answer as to what’s going on! Will keep everyone updated x

Oh glad they are keeping an eye on you, hope you get answers. Take care of yourself it must be very up and down for you x

ThatSharpOlivePeer · 17/07/2026 22:09

It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, I’m happy my hcg has risen but I’m also sad because everything points to a possible ectopic, and I’m sad that there’s no definitive answer yet as to what’s going on! But I put my faith in the medical professionals as I know they will figure it out

Sorry to hear this OP. I haven't had quite the same experience, but I know how awful it is to have all these scary things happening so early in a pregnancy. Been there done that for sure.

It does seem to be leaning towards ectopic but I would've thought they'd see that on ultrasound? Perhaps not, it's still tiny at this point. As you say, trust the medicos and hold your nerve X

ThatSharpOlivePeer · 18/07/2026 17:19

Because my hcg levels are only at 227 they said they haven’t been able to see anything as of yet, I’m back in for an appointment in 6 days where they’re hoping my hcg levels will be high enough for them to be able to see something on the ultrasound, whether that’s an ectopic pregnancy or not, as my hcg levels have to be around 1400 for anything to be visible on the TV ultrasound. I will keep everyone updated on what the scan shows! However I did take a clear blue digital test today and it has changed to 2-3 as opposed to the 1-2 I’ve seen on the digital tests the past 2 weeks
