It's fine, tasteless, it works and doesn't block you up. You can buy it from boots. I used to take mine with orange juice.

Yes, it's great stuff- I used to take 2 sachets a day (I'm veggie and had anaemia in both my pregnancies, but iron tablets bung me up awfully- midwife suggested Spatone)- also took them in orange juice usually at breakfast (disguises taste too, though they're not that bad). You should be able to buy them in any chemist. Good luck xx

I think they're great. My doctor told me my iron was low and prescribed me iron supplements. Asked my midwife's advice and she said that 11.3 was fine for pregnant woman and not to worry so I compromised by taking 1 sachet of spatone each day and 2 weeks later was retested and up to 11.4, so not sure I'm taking enough, but shows it does make a difference.
You should take it with orange juice (to disguise the taste and because vit c helps it be absorbed) on an empty tummy. Apparently calcium slows down/prevents absorbtion so wait 20-30 min before having a cup of tea/bowl of cereal.
BTW - Boots have it 3 for 2 at the mo so may work out cheaper than getting it online.

yes it's safe
yes it works
I feel so much better after taking it even though my iron levels were not 'officially' too low
take it with juice and it's ok, really. You wouldn't want to sip and savour it but it's gone in a second

mad4mybaby · 26/06/2008 08:21

ok so for me i cant stomach ANY juice for some reason. What would i take it with??

Tommy · 26/06/2008 08:23

you can just take it with water - a bit grim like that but possible. I have mine in only a small amount of juice.

It is very good though - got me through 3 pregnancies where the tablets the GP gave me just completed bunged u my whole system

FrannyandZooey · 26/06/2008 08:51

oh yes, it's not that bad - just better with something to mask the taste - plus vit C aids absorption so having some citrus at the same time is a good idea

if there is any cordial you like you could splash a bit of that in with it? Otherwise just plain water is ok, just drink it quickly!
