I know everyones different, but want to know what yours felt like at the start of labour.

Also how did they feel. Crampy, in the back, lower in the stomach, higher in the stomach?

In my kitchen

sorry - low down at the front and down the front of my thighs

NormaStanleyFletcher · 25/06/2008 15:09

Rather like period pains as I recall (I get period pains in my thighs too )

Midge25 · 25/06/2008 15:25

Definitely like period pains. They woke me up (at the decent hour of 8am) one morning in January...

Lubyloo · 25/06/2008 15:27

ÃŒn the car on the way to my mum's. It felt like a vice tightening around my lower back. Never felt anything in my tummy.

Sketchi · 25/06/2008 15:29

been getting tightenings with pain in lower part for around an hour, strting off at 3 mins apart and have now gone to 6 mins apart.

Am waiting for them to become more intense and regular, although on first baby I never hit below 5 mins apart. Suffered with loads of BH in both pregnancies, so just hoping this is it for DD2!

i woke from bed with huge contractions 3 mins apart, they just got more intense and my ds was born less than 3 hrs later

Sanguine · 25/06/2008 15:46

in bed at 2am.

Like period pain and regular as clockwork every five mins. then they got very painful, and were every 3 mins by 8am. then i went to hospital to be told I wasn't in labour, just pre-labour. contractions carried on, getting more and more evil, for anoth 24 hours. Still "not in labour". eventually made it to 3 cm and they let me into the delivery suite, by which stage i was a complete state. for me, the only way pre-labour was distinguishable from actual labour was whether I was allowed gas & air or not. shudder.

Sketchi · 25/06/2008 15:56

oh mydisquise don't say that! That's whats freaked me and hubby out the most, getting more intense but are now 4 mns apart.

In McDonalds . I popped in there for a big mac after my sweep and all hell broke loose. I can't pin point the pains exactly as they seemed to be everywhere. I actually had to crawl out of McDonalds.I can laugh about it now but at the time...... I got to the hospital 20 minutes later at 7cm dilated.

May be my DD was in a rush to get out so she didn't have to taste the burger!

For me the contractions were felt around the front, low down, like a band tightening. They didn't start off intense, just couldn't settle in bed, then realised these weren't braxton hicks I was having. Slowly got more intense, didn't feel like period pains to me tbh, more of a glassy pain, if that doesn't sound too stupid.

I couldn't sit down or stay still, but then again I only got to 3cm in 18 hours and ended up with an emcs, maybe later labour is a lot different.

mydisguise · 25/06/2008 22:33

sketchi, any news?

Sketchi · 26/06/2008 11:47

No nothing happening, oviously false labour for the 50th time in the past 3 weeks, little blighter! Blimin went on for 5 hours yesterday though.

Mine started in bed and felt like period pains low down. Contracted every 4mins from beginnning to end for 28hrs! Gradually got more and more intense.

I was about to write 'ann summers party' then I realised I had read the OP wrong.
In my back, but it was prem labour and I had placental abruption so I was in a lot of pain from that too.
