No fetal pole seen at 6 weeks, similar experiences and outcomes?

Hi, I had an early scan today and measured 6 weeks, which is slightly behind what I thought, but only by about 4 days which I guess could be ovulation and fertilisation later than I thought. Gestational sac and yolk sac were seen but no fetal pole yet. MSD 16mm. I’ve been offered a re-scan in 10 days.

Trying to stay positive as I know I’m still early!

But just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences of not seeing a fetal pole at 6 weeks and the outcome?

6 weeks can be too early in some cases. Like you say it could be late ovulation. I’ll be honest in my case (3 times) where they couldn’t see anything by 6 weeks it always ended in a loss but plenty of other people it turns out fine. When did you first get a positive test? Or did you track ovulation? My IVF clinic didn’t like scanning before 7 weeks. They said if at 7 weeks there’s no heartbeat it’s unlikely to work out. So 6 weeks is still early. Was it an internal scan? They are normally more reliable.

I got a positive on 11th June and it was a strong line, I waited until missed period. I think ovulation was around 27th/28th May based on postive LH on 26th. I had both abdominal and TV scan.

This is my first time, to be honest I was relieved to see everything in the right place today and that it had progressed this far, but now I’m overthinking! Will try and take each day as it comes.

If you’re correct about your ovulation you are measuring a bit behind. But as there’s no way to know exactly when you ovulate or implant it could still be fine. You’ll get a definitive answer at your next scan at least.

We went at 5 weeks 6 days so just behind you and there was no fetal pole but yolk sac and gestational sac. It was at window to the womb and this horrible cow told us to “prepare for the worst and come back in two weeks”. Couldn’t wait that long and went somewhere else a week later at 6 weeks 6 days and there was a fetal pole and little heartbeat. I’m now 26 weeks with baby boy! Don’t give up just yet!
