No heartbeat at six-week scan despite being nine weeks from last period

Please help!
Hi it has been 9 weeks and 5 days since my last period.
After having pain/ a bit of spotting on Sunday, I had an internal scan today. During the scan, I was told I am measuring 6 weeks and they could detect a heartbeat yet. I have to go back next Tuesday.
I just would love to hear someone else’s experience of something similar as right now I’m struggling to find hope. Thank you so much

I had an early scan at 7+4 and was told beforehand that the earliest the heart beat is seen is after 7 weeks. 🤞🏻 for you!

My second pregnancy started like this. I was positive when I conceived (only sex in three months!), so I was sure I knew my dates. I had some bleeding, so had an internal scan and was told measuring two weeks less than I thought, with no heartbeat. Went back for another scan a week or so later and heartbeat was there! DD 15 is currently chilling on the sofa oblivious to the anxiety she caused back then!😊

A heartbeat can be seen earlier than 7 weeks for a lot of people. I’ve seen a heartbeat as early as 5.6 previously. Most places prefer people to be at least 7 weeks for an early scan because if there isn’t a heartbeat at that point it’s unlikely to be viable. 5-7 weeks it is hit and miss whether you can see a heartbeat so waiting until 7 removes the uncertainty. The issue for the OP is she should be almost 10 weeks. Which is way past the 7 anyway and there is no heartbeat. Now obviously there’s always a chance she conceived almost a month later than she thinks if she isn’t tracking ovulation. But for me whenever I’ve measured far out of my dates it’s been a missed miscarriage. Twice I’ve been for a scan at 7-8 weeks to be told only measuring 6. Then a week later was still only measuring 6 and I needed surgery.

When did you first get a positive test? If your 9+ weeks from your last period you should see a heartbeat by now, but if your cycles are really long then you could be earlier.

I first got a positive test on the 21st May, judging by another reply now it looks like there isn’t going to be anything when I go back

The earliest that would make you if you got a very early positive would be almost 9 weeks.

I got my positive on the 27th of May. Had a scan on Friday just gone and I was 8 weeks so coming up to 9 weeks. Keeping everything crossed for you op

Not detecting a heartbeat before 8 weeks is expected, it doesn’t mean something bad just that it’s too early to worry just yet.
Unfortunately it’s just a case of waiting to see what happens now, hopefully you can have another scan in 2 weeks.

She’s almost 10 weeks. That’s the problem.

Prepare yourself that this isn't going to be a good outcome. I'm so sorry. Been there. It helped me to do a bit of research in advance about what my options were going to be so I felt a bit more prepared.

The info about no earlier than 7 weeks is outdated btw. I saw one at 5+5 with an IVF baby. 7 weeks is usually given to allow for some leeway and less uncertainty as you are in now. X
