Due tomorrow and wondering how long a fourth labour might be

hey
tomorrow Is my due date, I want baby out!
so my first pregnancy I was 10 days overdue, contracted for like 2.5 days and pushed for 3 hours
second pregnancy I was 7 days overdue. Contracted for 2 days and pushed for half hour.
Third pregnancy was a 16 week mc where I was induced, delivered after 3 hours.
so I’m on fourth, how long do you think my labour will be? Is it usually as fast as people say and how fast x

My first baby was one week overdue, waters broke, contractions started up slowly, and then 10 hours later and 30 minutes of pushing she was out.

Second baby caught me by surprise and was two weeks early. Thought I was having intense braxton hicks or prodromal labour, until I accidentally gave birth in the car! 15 minutes of pushing, but I guess the whole labour was about 24 hours from when I felt the first "Braxton hicks" contraction.

Hope baby is here soon!

holachicatita · 29/06/2026 18:13

My fourth baby was born about ten minutes from first contraction!

ZH92 · 29/06/2026 18:22

@holachicatita omg that’s so scary, we’re all your births as fast? I don’t want that happen to me lol I want to prepare
my legs are really cramp, my PGP has significantly gone worse, I keep weeing so often! Body aches but no contractions etc x

3rd baby I managed to wedge in between 2 episodes of Friends - home birth.

QuaintBeaker · 29/06/2026 21:57

1st baby 21hrs
2nd baby 8hrs
3rd baby 48 minutes
4th baby... can't actually remember 🤣 it was longer than number 3 though

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/06/2026 22:02

1 - 17 hours total. Can’t remember how long I pushed for.
2 - 7 hours total. Pushed for 5 minutes.
3 - induced 2 weeks early. When it finally started working, I went from 2 to 8cm in 15 minutes and my body immediately started trying to push. If it had been a spontaneous labour, I reckon it would have been a lot quicker than number 2.

4th baby..put the older ones in the bath at 6pm in a Sunday evening, settled them in bed by seven, and baby was born whilst watching Top Gear. All in bed by 10.30pm. Heaven!

ZH92 · 29/06/2026 22:14

Omg you’re all scaring me! Lmao.
i have two little girls and just moved into a new house so a home birth would petrify me or not getting to hospital on time lol
so it seems the third/ fourth labour really is super fast!

  1. 10 hours - 3 weeks early
  2. 3 hours - 16 days late
  3. 8 hours - 1 week late
  4. 11 hours - induced 14 days early

so my last was longest and worst actually in end as it wasn't painful until hour 9 and then Lordy me was it hell! The others slowly built but I honestly could have done a days work for nearly all of the night....good luck, it'll be worth it.

Sunlitsoul · 29/06/2026 22:22

My 3rd baby was my worst birth 😬 but he was quite big relative to my size and back to back, he was wedged, so no amount of pushing would have got him out, he was delivered via forceps. I think it's luck of the draw really, you've delivered twice full-term before so this will probably be similar. With all my labours I had 24 hours of contractions, it was just position and size of the baby that seemed to decide how well it went in the end in terms of pushing and actually delivering. My first was back to back too and I was about to have forceps when I delivered her (she was 2 pounds lighter than my 3rd baby), second was my best birth, awful continuous contractions, but it was the smoothest. I'm hoping for a nice easy fourth birth in a few months, not a repeat of the shitshow that number 3 was!

Thank you everyone for your responses!
and I hope those who are expecting their next have an easier smoother labour!
I had a midwife appt today. I also lost my mucus plug this morning. Midwife said I’m 1-2cm and managed to do half a sweep before I tapped out. Iv always had back labour and she confirmed baby is on my back now too and my back pains have been ramping up so labour is probably imminent now? X

No not all my births were as fast, they progressively got faster. First was a very long affair. Then about 3/4 hours, third was very quick too, around an hour! I dread to think what a fifth would be like, but I'll ever know!

Good luck OP, come back and tell us how you get on.

Rituelec · 30/06/2026 23:09

1st baby 2hr 10
2nd 55mins
3rd 1hr 21
4th 2hr 45

Last stage for me was less than 10mins with all of them

ZH92 · 01/07/2026 02:51

Hey
Iv been on and off contracting since 5pm. It’s slowed down for an hour or two. A lot of irregular contractions. Got woken up at 1am by a very painful contraction and they’ve been consistent since. Just irregular with how long they last and there intervals. Hosp told me not to come in until I’m 3 mins apart? Surely not. It’s so painful as it is!

TeaAndMadeiraCake · 01/07/2026 04:10

My 4th baby was 15 hours, which is about half as long as the rest, but it was a lot more full on and intense.

ZH92 · 01/07/2026 05:47

Iv been sent home bcos im still only 2cm dilated despite having contractions 5 mins apart which are soooo painful- I dno how ima cope! I have to wait till contractions are 3 mins apart. And im in so much pain !

Best of luck, OP! I hope your sweet baby is here soon!

ZH92 · 01/07/2026 12:59

@Greyblueeyes thank you

unfortunately my contractions stopped around 10am. Was glad for the break but it’s just making it longer and delaying it 😭 I just wanna dilate to atleast 4cm so I can get pain relief when it starts! X

Oh no! What hoping when I saw your update that you would have given birth! Hope you manage a restful night tonight! When are you next seeing your midwife? Hopefully another sweep would do the trick?

Both of mine were back to back. The pain was horrific. I never dilated as the baby wasn’t engaged enough in the cervix due to position. I would make sure to mention that the baby is back to back if you do go back in and they aren’t happy with your progress. Will any luck, given this is your fourth, once baby engages properly you will be away! Best of luck!
