14+2 - another 6 weeks until next scan - anyone else paranoid at this stage?

ok, so we've had our scan 2 weeks ago - all well so far. next one booked at 20 weeks. i don't yet have a bump (getting v fat though - lots of eating), i can't feel anything (well, occasionally feel twinges of a bit of internal stretching) and while my sane brain can say, no, everything's fine, just wait, my insane brain goes - HOW DO I KNOW???

had a mm/c last year, so that probably is influencing this feeling of paranoia.

just wanted reassurance, really - how are other people feeling/coping with the uncertainty?

I'm well past that point but here's what I know:

  • If you are likely to miscarry because of genetic abnormalities it's likely to happen in the first seven weeks.
  • Prior to 13 weeks further miscarriages can happen because the placenta fails to develop properly
  • Chromosonal abnormalities - which don't lead to miscarriage during the first seven weeks are rare - and while they do happen - obviously - there is bugger all you can do to prevent them or predict them.

So all you can do is just concentrate on breathing in and out and being fairly healthy in the interim.

Also, you do tend to get tipped off much earlier than this - at least I did - when you have the triple test - I knew at 16 weeks and three days there was a potential problem and then by 17 and a half weeks that the amnio was clear.

So actually you don't have as long as you think to worry.
