Trying to conceive after surgical management, when did your period return?

Hi all

I am 35 days post surgical management for a mmc. The surgery went well and no retained products but they did breach my cervix slightly. For context I had a LETTZ procedure about 10 years ago on my cervix and a c section 4 years ago.

We have started trying again as I am approaching 40. I have done pg tests and they aee negative. I just wondered about other people's experience of ttc after smmc and when you got your first period after?

Thanks in advance

I had a MMC and surgical management some years ago.My period did not return for three months and my gc prescribed the pill for a month which I thought counter intuitive.i came off it and conceived on the fourth month post surgery then conceived again when first was 18 months.

Thanks so much for your reply! I am guessing I should wait for 8 weeks and then go to gp if it still hasn't arrived? I hate the idea of time slipping away!

Mine came back after about 6-7 weeks and I conceived again on the third cycle. I found TTC again pretty mentally challenging but actually in retrospect 3 months isn't bad going! Now nearly 22 weeks pregnant and baby boy seems to be doing wonderfully (though I do have complete placenta praevia which I have read that surgical management can increase the chances of).

P.S. Good luck! It's a real toughy of a situation. If you haven't already I would recommend taking a look at TWGGE (The Worst Girl Gang Ever) who have brilliant support.

Exactly 4 weeks after the procedure and I conceived again on the next cycle after that

Just hopping on here because I’m wondering the same thing- I’m 22 days post op today and keen for things to get back to normal so we can start TTC again. I’ve been really crampy the last few days and testing negative so hoping it’s a sign that my period is incoming 🤞🏻

Hey there!
I had a mmc last year in April, which i also had to remove surgically. My period returned in around 6 weeks. We had a break and did not try for around 3 months because i did some fertility tests (mainly for trombophilia). We started TTC again in August and I got pregnant again in Late September… however that pregnancy also ended in early miscarriage (spontaneous…). It is mentally extremely tough but I still encourage myself and every woman to never give up on the motherhood dream. Give yourself time to heal and your body will not fail you. Good luck to all TTC women out here 🫶🏼

I had surgical management for a MMC in July 2024 period came back 3.5 months later. GP referred me for an ultrasound to see what was going on. They said it was my hormones taking a while to sort themselves out again. I conceived on the 3rd cycle after that but it ended in a spontaneous MC at 7 weeks. Currently sitting with my nearly 5 month old conceived 4 cycles after my second MC. I turned 40 last autumn.
