Early scan showed gestation sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole, dated 5-6 days behind what I thought I was. Any hope?

I had a scan on Monday at what should have been 6w6d-7w1d (depending on whether calculated using LMP or post ovulation). Admittedly don’t know exactly when I ovulated but I had a rising LH 16 May then stopped checking after that. Conception window would have been 16-20 May though.

The sonographer saw a gestation sac measuring 12.9mm (mean diameter) and a yolk sac which she said looked healthy, but no fetal pole. She dated me 6w1d based on sac size. She was quite neutral and said I’d need a repeat and in her experience it could go either way.

Anyone been in this position before and things turn out ok?

Hi! I am going through almost the exact same thing right now. Based on my ovulation dates, I was sure I was 6 weeks + 1 day along, but at my scan they told me the gestational sac measured only 5 weeks (it was 5mm) and nothing else could be seen yet. I am in the exact same limbo and the uncertainty is so hard. My follow-up scan is this coming Monday to see if it has evolved. I just wanted to reply to let you know you are not alone in this awful waiting game. Sending you lots of love, I really hope we both get good news next week! ❤️

Thank you love I’m hoping the best for you too! Are you still having symptoms? I sometimes feel like they’ve gone and then I randomly get a wave of something, so weird feeling pregnant but not knowing. I regret getting the early scan… I’m having a rescan in just over 2 weeks as can’t get the time off work in 10 days (work don’t know) and thought 8 days was too soon? But tempted to rebook for next week now… keep me updated I’m really hoping it turns out well for you xx

I completely get what you mean about the symptoms! Until yesterday, I was feeling so exhausted and had nausea. Today, I woke up feeling absolutely nothing. I don't know if it’s just the emotional shock from the last few days or what, but this waiting game is awful.
I also really regret going for that scan at 6 weeks (even though they told me it only measured 5 weeks). It creates so much unnecessary worry. Originally, they were going to book my follow-up for week 8 too, but because of the spotting I had, they brought it forward to this coming Monday just to check if the sac has shown any progress.
Let's hang in there. I really hope we both get our reassurance soon! ❤️

Fingers crossed for you. There’s always a chance the dates are just off.
I had symptoms and felt I was pregnant but was testing negative for a few days, then I got a positive test and after a couple of days I booked a scan for 2 weeks later thinking that would be comfortably within the right time as the clinic said 2 weeks from a positive at the earliest.
The scan literally showed nothing, thickened lining and basically nothing else. I was devastated, confident I had lost the pregnancy but 5 years later and she’s running around in the world!

Thank you so much for sharing your story! Wow, it gave me goosebumps 🥹 This is so, so hopeful to read. I am so happy it turned out so beautifully for you, and it gives me a little burst of faith for my scan on Monday

Hi!
Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news for me. It turned out to be a missed miscarriage, as the sac didn't develop further.
Yesterday my body finally started the natural process on its own. I had a few hours of very heavy bleeding and intense contractions, but today everything is much calmer, and I’m just resting at home, waiting for a follow-up ultrasound next week to make sure my body cleared everything out. I am completely exhausted, but relieved to finally be closing this physical chapter.
How did things go for you? I truly hope you got a better outcome. Sending you a big hug!

I’m so sorry, hugs. I can understand some of the relief you must be feeling to be able to grieve and move forward without the physical aspect looming over you. Same for me. I had a repeat scan yesterday which they said was very concerning but they can’t call it just yet so need a repeat next week. I don’t have any cramps or bleeding so I feel like i may need medical intervention as I’m 9 weeks now and not sure if waiting for natural is best at this stage xx
