Unexpectedly pregnant naturally just before starting IVF

Hello all, i've been a long time lurker on mumsnet but have just found out i'm pregnant! I don't really have anything specific to say, I just wanted to reach out to this lovely community, as I start this new journey.

I am 32 and this is my first pregnancy. I was actually just due to start IVF next month, as I have just had a fertility MOT scan and had an AFC of 5. (I had a large ovarian cyst removed 10 years ago, so basically only have 1 working ovary)

I was devastated once I found out about my low egg count and immediately started trying to conceive, so i'm in complete shock as I unexpectedly got pregnant on the first try! 😄
I haven't even told my partner yet (he's still asleep 😅so I'm sharing the news here).

Congratulations 🎉. I would point out that to other members of the IVF community that you hadn't been trying and this was your first try just so it doesn't give false hope to those who have been trying a lot longer.

This happened with us, we were about to start ivf, and I got pregnant just as we started the process. DS is 24 now.

Me!! Tried for a year at 38 was about to have my first IvF appointment in January and then December 7th 2021 naturally became pregnant… little girl is almost 4.

When I called to cancel the ivf appointment they said it happens a lot!!

Aw congratulations OP, it’s happened to me once before and it was astounding feeling! Well done to your body!! So relieving knowing things are actually working pretty well after known complications!

This happened to me too! Had all the tests, paperwork filled in for the clinic, and it happened naturally! I also know of someone else it happened to.

This happened to me - 10 days from starting IVF drugs ... felt a bit out of sorts ... DS is now a strapping 18YO

Thank you so much. I just thought it would be nice to tell a positive story. I had no idea I would catch so quickly, I was so devastated about my low egg count but goes to show the count is not always the be all and end all.

Thank you so much. I am new to posting on here but as far as I am aware I posted on the pregnancy community only and not the IVF pages. I didn't want to be insensitive as I know how it feels to have fertility concerns. I just wanted to give a positive side of this as I was feeling so down and really panicking about this being my last chance to conceive.

I hadn't been actively trying prior, but there were plenty of whoopsies that didn't result in anything, it was only when I tried actively that it happened.Thanks for the heads up.

Oh wow, how lovely! I can imagine how much relief you felt because that's definitely how i'm feeling. I think it's nice to be able to give some (tentative) hope to others as I thought it wouldn't happen for me based on my history.

Oh thank you. I feel like against the odds, my body decided it knew what to do and in the perfect timing too. I was only trying just so I could say I tried prior to starting the IVF, so this was such a pleasant surprise. There's only a remnant of my left ovary, so I had zero expectations of anything happening naturally. 😀

Same, I had almost finished all the paperwork, had my consultation with the clinic already booked. Already mentally prepared myself for treatment and boom! We were all so lucky!

Amazing news, congratulations.

My unexpected blue line after 18 months of unsuccessful trying is currently sitting beside me eating a bagel, he was 1 last Friday.

Fertility MOTs are very unreliable. Infertility is diagnosed by a failure to conceive. This is obviously great news for you OP but I’m slightly alarmed a clinic was about to take your money.
